Black Hoof Park - Lake Lenexa

Black Hoof Park - Lake Lenexa Nestled in the forest among the rock outcroppings is 35-acre Lake Lenexa, the centerpiece of 210-acre Black Hoof
Park.

The vision for Black Hoof Park began in the early 1990s with the purchase of 80 acres where Lake Lenexa is located today. Since then, the park has grown into what is now a beautiful preserve of forest, prairie, streamways and wetlands. The completion of Lake Lenexa and Black Hoof Park fulfills the community goals set by Vision 2020, and furthers the mission of the City of Lenexa’s Rain to Recreati

on program to reduce flooding, protect water quality and habitat, and provide recreational and educational opportunities. Nestled in the forest among the rock
outcroppings is 35-acre Lake Lenexa, the centerpiece of Black Hoof Park. The lake and 210-acre park were designed to provide visitors with a wide range of things to do and see, including a trail system that stretches nearly five miles and lake access for fishing and boating. Pedestrian bridges and boardwalks allow visitors a closer look at wildlife along the lake, stream and wetlands. Uniting form and function, Lake Lenexa’s dam and spillway merge engineering with art. Using innovative and cutting-edge concrete and earthwork practices, the design is an artistic representation of the water cycle that features fountains, sculptures and cascading pools. The pedestrian bridge above the spillway offers an
exclusive view of the lake and its imaginative dam and spillway design.
