A quick reminder that the fourth annual Battle of the Bowls is coming up Thursday, Sept. 17, at Founders Park.

Leland Fire Department, Leland Police Department, and the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office will be serving up chili and competing for bragging rights, with your votes helping support Manna Ministries.

Bring canned food donations or purchase $1 voting tickets to cast your vote for your favorite bowl. We’ll also have live music, food trucks, yard games, face painting, and more throughout the evening.

Battle of the Bowls runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Founders Park.

Since we have your attention, this is your chance to help shape what comes next for Leland’s parks and green spaces. Your feedback can help guide future decisions about parks, trails, open space, recreation programs, and other amenities across Leland.

The Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan community survey is open through Sept. 14 for residents who live within Town limits. Responses are anonymous, and it only takes a few minutes.

Oh, y'all thought Live in Leland was just about the concerts? 👀🎬

We're keeping things rolling at Founders Park with three movie nights headed your way:

- Sept. 19: We're having the time of our lives with Dirty Dancing! Join Tracie Rabalais for dance lessons at 7 p.m. before the movie begins at 7:40 p.m.

- Oct. 17: Things get a little out of this world with Muppets in Space at 7 p.m. Stick around afterward for stargazing with the Cape Fear Astronomical Society.

- Dec. 5: Settle in for Home Alone under the Christmas lights at Founders Park. The movie starts at 6 p.m., with a whole slew of holiday activities planned for the evening. More details coming soon.

And just like our concerts, all three movie nights are FREE! We'll have food trucks and yard games, plus the playground will be open. And for our Sept. 19 movie night, you can add the splash pad to the list, too.

Grab a chair or blanket, pick your movie night (all of them, of course), and come hang out with us! 🍿🎥

🗓️ This week marks the 30th anniversary of Hurricane Fran making landfall along the Brunswick County coast, hammering our region with 115 mph winds and torrential rain. At the time, it was the costliest natural disaster in North Carolina history.

Fran delivered the second blow in a one-two punch for southeastern North Carolina that hurricane season, striking less than two months after Hurricane Bertha tore through many of the same communities.

For those who were here in 1996, Fran is a reminder of just how quickly life can change when a major hurricane comes ashore.

Folks, with the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season just days away, now is the time to make sure you're prepared.

Please take a few minutes to:
✅ Restock your hurricane kit
✅ Review or update your emergency plan
✅ Safeguard important documents
✅ Make sure you can receive emergency alerts

Good morning, Leland! 😊

Before the long weekend gets here, we have a quick reminder: Town facilities will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day.

We’ll be back and ready to help when Town offices reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Leland, you sure know how to hold on to that feelin'! 🎶🎤💙

Thank you to everyone who joined us Thursday evening for DEPARTURE: The Journey Tribute Band at Founders Park! We loved seeing the lawn filled with neighbors, families, lawn chairs, and plenty of folks singing along to their favorite Journey songs.

And Live in Leland isn't done yet! Next up, we're trading rock anthems for a few timeless tales as the Brunswick Arts Council presents Aesop's Fables on Friday, Aug. 21.

The free performance begins at 6 p.m. at the Founders Park amphitheater, so bring a chair or blanket and come enjoy another evening with us at the park.

Thanks for singing along, Leland. Now get ready for story time! 🐢🆚🐇
