Leland Fire Department "Mission-Focused, Values-Driven”

The Town of Leland Fire/Rescue Department was originally established in 1959 as a volunteer non-profit organization.
(1)

Over the years, it transitioned to a combination department. In 2017 the department became a part of the Town of Leland. Today, the department consists of over 30 full-time career staff, 20 part-time positions and volunteer staff operating out of two fire stations, with a third station to be staffed in 2021. We protect and provide service to approximately 35,000 residents in the Town of Leland, th

e Town of Bellville and parts of northern Brunswick County. Our career staff works in three shifts (A, B and C) of 24 hours each with their workday starting at 7:00am and ending at 7:00am the next morning. Each shift staffs two engine companies, one truck company and an on-duty Battalion Chief. Currently the truck company also cross-staffs a heavy rescue unit containing our technical rescue equipment. We have part-time staff that helps us fill in any openings we have when full-time staff are off on leave. Our volunteer firefighters will also work in 6, 12, or 24 hours shifts to add to our on-duty staffing. Emergency services we provide:

Fire Suppression

Basic Life Support Emergency Medical Response

Hazardous Materials Operations Level Response

Technical Rescue Response, including:

High-Angle Rope Rescue

Confined Space Rescue

Water Rescue

What we do, what we believe in, and where we are going…

Our Mission is to:

Serve

Be Ready

Create Excellent Outcomes

Our Core Values are:

Dedication

Professionalism

Integrity

Our Vision:
“The Town of Leland Fire/Rescue Department is the place of choice where motivated people can be their best. We have shared values and are fulfilled by the work we do and the excellent outcomes we create. We are engaged and dedicated in service to each other and our community, who trust us to protect their safety, resources, and quality of life”.

Just after 5 p.m. this evening, Leland Fire responded to a gas leak on Ocean Gate Boulevard near Murphy USA. Utilities to the affected area have been secured and shut off, and there's no threat to the public.

Businesses and residents in the affected area can expect gas service disruptions throughout the evening as Piedmont Natural Gas works to remove damaged sections of pipe and complete repairs. They will notify affected customers when service is ready to be restored.

You won’t be able to exit from Gateway Boulevard onto U.S. Highway 17, but you can enter Ocean Gate Plaza from U.S. Highway 17 and exit via New Pointe Boulevard. Expect traffic impacts until Piedmont Natural Gas completes its work.

Last week, the Leland Fire Department joined personnel from across the region for fire investigation training in Belville hosted by Brunswick Community College in partnership with the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal.

The course provided hands-on experience in determining fire origin and cause, preserving scenes, identifying evidence, and conducting investigations.

Training like this helps to maintain proficiency and strengthens the skills that fire investigators rely on.

🇺🇸 This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. But today is also for the families, friends, and loved ones who continue carrying that sacrifice every single day.

For many, Memorial Day is not just remembrance; it is personal. It is an empty chair at the table, a folded flag, a missed voice, and a life forever changed by service and sacrifice.

To those among us who have lost someone in defense of this nation: we remember with you, we honor them with you, and we thank you for the sacrifice your family has made. Their legacy will never be forgotten. ❤️🤍💙
