Attention all plant lovers! Want to be part of the legacy of our community parks? Do you have perennials that need to be divided? Then, we have a place for them to go.

Parks and Recreation is hosting our first Plants at the Park at 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25.

Grab your shovel, split those perennials you have at home and participate in our greenery for the scenery at all our parks. Bring in the perennials you'd like to be included in the park project.

Please label your plants when you drop them off at Beville Park. We will have a landing bed for some plants and some we will immediately move to their permanent home in the park.

Depending on the plants available, we hope to use these on the upper trails, the Veterans Memorial area, the baseball and softball complex areas and Beville. And, if possible, Firefighters and Dewitt Parks.

We can’t wait to see your favorite perennials take root and bloom in our community spaces. Your green thumb can help shape the beauty of our local parks for years to come.

Today, on National Day of Service and Remembrance, the City of Leitchfield pauses to honor the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, and the brave first responders who ran toward danger without hesitation.

As a city dedicated to serving our residents, we are reminded today of the ultimate meaning of public service. We extend our deepest gratitude to our local police officers, firefighters, dispatchers, EMTs, and military personnel who put on their uniforms every day to protect and strengthen our community.

In the face of unthinkable tragedy, our nation answered with compassion, courage, and unity. May we honor the memory of that day not only by remembering those we lost, but by renewing our own commitment to kindness, service, and unity right here in Leitchfield.
