IMPORTANT REMINDER FOR HOMEOWNERS: The deadline for submitting your homestead/farmstead application has been extended until Monday, March 2nd. The deadline is March 1st. This reminder is for new homeowners and those who have recorded a new deed by adding or removing a name or names. If you are already approved, no action is needed on your part. If you are not sure if you have been approved in the past, please locate your school tax notice from 2025. There you will see a homestead exclusion value of 16,517. This means that you are approved and are receiving your credit. The Fayette County Assessment Office automatically removes the homestead/farmstead exemption once a new deed has been recorded. The exemption is a credit that is automatically deducted from your school tax when approved. It does not go by income. Anyone who owns their home and their names appears on the deed is eligible. Those who have a life estate in a deed and the deed does not list their name are also eligible. The homestead/farmstead credit is different for every school district. Last year in the Connellsville Area School District the credit was $268.16. This deduction only applies to the school tax. If you are in need of an application, log on to www.fayettecountypa.org, property search, tax relief. You can also call my office at 724-626-0804 or stop by to pick one up. I will be in the office this weekend. Remember, all applications must be postmarked by March 2nd. You will have to go to the post office and have them postmark at the window as the mail only goes out once a day. Call my office if you have any questions or need to verify your homestead credit. Thank you & have a great weekend!
