🇺🇸🦅 HAPPY 4TH OF JULY — HAPPY 250TH BIRTHDAY, AMERICA! 🦅🇺🇸
Today, we proudly celebrate 250 years of the United States of America — 250 years of courage, sacrifice, resilience, patriotism, and freedom. ❤️🤍💙
For two and a half centuries, generations of Americans have stood beneath our flag and answered the call to serve. Some left home and returned forever changed. Some missed birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and precious moments with their families. Some carried wounds the world could see, while others carried battles silently within.
And some never made it home.
Today, as fireworks light up the night sky and families gather together in celebration, we ask everyone to take just a moment to remember why we are free to celebrate at all.
Our freedom was not simply given to us.
It was fought for.
It was defended.
It was protected through blood, sweat, tears, courage, and sacrifice.
It was defended in the freezing cold and scorching heat, across oceans and deserts, in the skies above us and on distant battlefields far from home. It was protected by ordinary Americans who made extraordinary sacrifices — brave men and women willing to stand between danger and a nation full of people they may never meet.
🇺🇸 That is service.
🇺🇸 That is sacrifice.
🇺🇸 That is courage.
🇺🇸 That is America.
As our 30th President, Calvin Coolidge, once said:
“The nation which forgets its defenders will itself be forgotten.”

Those words carry a powerful truth.
We must never forget the men and women who defended this nation. We must never forget those who came home forever changed. We must never forget those still serving today. And above all, we must never forget those who gave everything and never made it home.
To every veteran who once wore the uniform, to every active-duty service member wearing it today, and to every brave American who gave their life beneath the Stars and Stripes — we owe you a debt that words can never fully repay.
Thank you for the long nights.
Thank you for the missed holidays.
Thank you for the empty chairs at family tables.
Thank you for the tearful goodbyes at airports, front doors, and military bases.
Thank you for the birthdays and anniversaries spent thousands of miles away.
Thank you for carrying burdens most of us will never fully understand.
Thank you for standing watch while the rest of us slept safely at home.
And thank you for having the courage to protect millions of Americans you may never know, never meet, and never hear say thank you.
From each and every one of us here at the Leighton Police Department, please know this:
We see your sacrifice. We honor your service. We remember those who never came home. And we will never forget that the freedoms we enjoy today were secured and defended by brave men and women willing to put everything on the line for this nation.
There is another powerful quote that reminds us what our flag represents:

That flag is more than cloth.
🇺🇸 It has been carried into battle.
🇺🇸 It has been raised in moments of victory.
🇺🇸 It has flown through our nation’s darkest days.
🇺🇸 It has been carefully folded and placed into the arms of grieving families.
🇺🇸 It has covered the caskets of heroes who gave their final full measure of devotion to this country.
For 250 years, the American flag has flown through triumph and tragedy, war and peace, heartbreak and hope. It has stood as a symbol to the world that no matter how difficult the road, the American spirit endures.
So tonight, when you see the fireworks…
Remember the battles fought before us.
When you hear the National Anthem…
Remember those who stood when duty called.
When you place your hand over your heart…
Remember those who never came home.
And when you see the American flag waving proudly in the sky…
Remember every life given, every family separated, every wound carried, every tear shed, and every sacrifice made so that we can still call ourselves free.
