FIRE ALERT: NO BURNING THIS WEEKEND

The Alabama Forestry Commission has officially issued a Fire Alert for all of Central and North Alabama, effective immediately through Sunday night.

We’re looking at a "perfect storm" of low humidity, extremely dry fuels, and increased wind speeds. In these conditions, it doesn't take a lightning strike to start a disaster—a single spark from a dragging trailer chain or an unattended charcoal grill can put our communities and our firefighters at serious risk.

What you need to know:
No Outdoor Burning: All permits for debris and agricultural burning are suspended. This includes trash piles and campfires.

Equipment Safety: If you’re hauling a trailer, ensure your chains are secured and not dragging on the pavement.

Vehicle Hazards: Avoid parking any vehicle in tall, dry grass where the exhaust system could ignite a fire.

Report Smoke Early: If you see smoke, don't assume someone else has called it in. Report it to 911 immediately so our crews can get on it while it’s still small.

Let’s work together to keep our boots on the pavement and our woods out of the line of fire this weekend. We appreciate your help in keeping Central Alabama safe.

Stay safe,

🚒 CCAVFD Make-A-Wish Alabama Fundraiser ⭐

The CCAVFD is currently accepting donations and unwanted items to help support an incredible cause — Make-A-Wish Alabama. Our goal is to raise $10,000 before June, and we need the community’s help to make it happen!

If you have items you no longer need or would like to donate, please reach out to a member of the Volunteer Fire Department, and we will gladly arrange to pick them up from you.

You can also support the cause by making a direct donation using the QR code below.

Every donation — big or small — helps us get one step closer to granting wishes for children facing critical illnesses. 💙

Thank you all for your continued support of your local volunteers and this amazing cause!

2PM Update: Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing over the next few hours. Anything that remains wet will begin to freeze. Below freezing temperatures are expected to last until Tuesday afternoon. Black Ice is expected.

What is Black Ice?
Black ice is a thin, nearly invisible layer of ice that forms when temperatures drop near or below freezing. It commonly develops on bridges, overpasses, shaded roads, and elevated surfaces.

🚗 Driving Safety
• Slow down and increase following distance.
• Avoid sudden braking or sharp turns.
• If your vehicle begins to slide, ease off the accelerator and steer gently in the direction of the skid.
• Be extra cautious on bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas, especially during early morning and overnight hours.
• Assume roads may be icy even if they look wet

If you don’t have to travel, delay driving until conditions improve. Stay alert and stay safe.
We at Colbert EMA will continue to keep you updated and informed.

Everyone be safe with the cold weather that is coming prediction is calling some wind chill in the -4 on Wednesday and temps in the single digits. Please if you have to travel leave extra early to allow you time to drive slow to your destination. And if you see anything that looks off call immediately it could be the difference of life and death with this weather. Also might be a good idea to keep extra clothes or blanket in case of car breakdowns

Thanks from the Lagrange fire department
