🏭 Steel Mill Modelers Visit Leetonia!

Yesterday, the Steel Mill Modelers Special Interest Group stopped in Leetonia to visit the historic Cherry Valley Beehive Coke Ovens! (Leetonia Beehive Coke Ovens)

The SMMSIG is an NMRA Special Interest Group made up of model railroaders and steel-industry enthusiasts who share an interest in researching, documenting, and modeling steel mills, coke plants, and the railroads that supported them.

Their visit to Leetonia was a great opportunity to connect their interest in steel-industry modeling with the real history of the coal, coke, and steel industry right here in our community.

Mayor Kevin Siembida gave the group a tour of the coke ovens and shared the story of Leetonia’s industrial past, including the important role the ovens played in producing coke for the region’s growing iron and steel industry.

We’re always happy to welcome visitors who appreciate the history behind these unique structures — and who understand that sometimes the best way to learn about a steel mill is to see where the story actually began! 🔥🏭

Thank you to the Steel Mill Modelers Special Interest Group for visiting Leetonia and taking an interest in our history. We hope to see you back in the Valley again soon!

August 14, 2026
The boil order issued for the water valve repair on Butcher and Washington has been lifted. Bacteria samples taken have been processed and come back negative.

It is no longer necessary to boil your water.

🚰 Water Valve Repair Update ‼️

The water samples collected following the water valve replacement have been submitted for testing. Results are expected by approximately 7:30 PM this evening.

Please check the Village of Leetonia page later tonight for an update on the test results and any additional information.

Additionally:
Those who are not within the area described in our original post do not need to worry about water.

🚨 WATER MAIN REPAIR & BOIL WATER ADVISORY 🚨

The Village of Leetonia will be repairing a leaking water main valve on Thursday, August 13, beginning at approximately 9:00 a.m.

📍Butcher Road at Washington Street will be closed during the repair.

Residents in Honey Lane, Sleepy Hollow, Bears Den, Orchard Hill Drive, portions of Walnut Street, York Street, and possibly Oak Street will experience a temporary water interruption.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: A BOIL WATER ADVISORY will be in effect. Do not consume Village water until the advisory is officially lifted. Use bottled water or boil water for at least 1 minute before use.

💧 Water service is expected to be restored after approximately six hours, but testing must be completed before the advisory can be lifted.
