📣 Lost & Found – Gold Graduation Ring 📣

On Thursday, May 14, 2026, a gold graduation ring was found on the gas pumps at Murphy’s Gas Station (in front of Walmart) in Leesville.

If this is your ring and you would like to get it back, please contact the Leesville Police Department. You will need to provide specific details about the ring to verify that it belongs to you.

Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Department and Leesville Police Department Strengthen Partnership

Vernon Parish, La.---Sheriff Sam Craft of the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Department and Chief Amanda Westmoreland of the Leesville Police Department are proud to announce a renewed commitment to collaboration and community engagement.

Residents may notice Vernon Parish deputies working within the City of Leesville. This joint effort is part of a broader initiative to foster teamwork and enhance public safety throughout the parish. Sheriff Craft and Chief Westmoreland emphasize that such cooperation is a positive step toward unifying law enforcement efforts for the benefit of the community.

Both agencies have already collaborated on several events, including the “Go Tell America” and the recent D.A.R.E. graduation at Vernon Middle School. Their next major joint initiative will be National Night Out, and the public is invited to join and celebrate this event on August 4th.

Sheriff Craft and Chief Westmoreland are committed to partnering together to enhance public safety in our community.

Leesville Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER. Applications can be obtained at the Leesville Police Department or online at https://ose.louisiana.gov/event/police-communications-officer-88/

Applicants should be of good character and demonstrate qualities of professionalism, dedication and integrity with a desire to serve our community. This position consists of 12-hour shifts and the duties includes answering incoming phone calls to the police department, dispatching officers to calls, monitoring radio traffic and maintaining logs / records of information.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be 18 years of age
• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Must possess a valid Driver's License
• Must possess one of the following: High School Diploma, G.E.D., Associate's or Bachelor's Degree
• Must have a passing Civil Service Exam score for Communications Officer
• Have no felony convictions

After submitting a completed application, applicants will be required to pass the following mandatory tests and evaluations:
• Louisiana Entrance Communications Officer Exam. Information of the testing process can be found at the Louisiana Office of State Examiner
• Background Investigation
• Oral Interview
• Polygraph / C.V.S.A. Examination
• Medical Examination / Drug Screen

Completed applications can be physically turned in to Leesville Police Department at 101 West Lee Street, Leesville, LA.

Leesville PD has been made aware that the right lane, southbound, on South 5th (171) will be shut down from the area of Burger King to the area of Taco Bell. We were not advised how long the lane closure will be.
