What does it mean to share a meal in the middle of a soybean field?
Last week’s Field-to-Table Dinner, hosted by the Berks County Farm Bureau, brought community members directly onto the farm to experience where their food begins. Guests enjoyed a locally sourced meal surrounded by growing crops, met the people who produce our food, and learned more about the importance of agriculture in Berks County. A portion of the event proceeds supports agricultural education programs that help connect future generations to farming and food production.
As a proud sponsor, the Berks County Department of Agriculture believes events like this matter because they strengthen the connection between farmers and consumers. Agriculture is more than an industry; it is a way of life that helps sustain our local economy, preserve our farmland, and provide food for our communities. When people have the opportunity to visit a farm, meet local producers, and hear their stories, they gain a deeper appreciation for the work, stewardship, and innovation that go into every harvest.
A very special thank you to Sherry Fuhrmann and Jeremy Meck who put this together. And thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, and supported this unique celebration of Berks County agriculture. Together, we're helping ensure that farming remains a valued and vibrant part of our community for generations to come.
