The second full week of April is designated as National Public Service Telecommunicators Week - thank a 911 dispatcher!

While anyone in emergency services could be categorized as a first responder, the real first responder who serve as the first link between the scene of an unfolding emergency and getting help there is the 911 dispatcher!

911 dispatchers serve as the lifeline between callers, responders, the scene, and facilitating the notification of additional resources and services when necessary. Many times, if no one else can hear us, they can. Under heard and under appreciated, but please know how much we really do appreciate the work you do and headaches you deal with, not just this week, but all the time!

Please join us in celebrating the service of our 911 team of telecommunicators at Berks DES during National Public Service Telecommunicators Week!

THANK YOU, DISPATCHERS!!

‎‼️🚨 If burning 🔥 yard rubbish, trash, leaves, building scraps, or anything outside, is on your list for today, PLEASE EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION ⚠️ ‼️

There were a handful of reports of controlled burns that got out of control yesterday and conditions continue to be a good recipe for the same again today.

- If you’re burning and there’s any doubt that you have lost control, call 911 right away - not after you get the garden hose!

This evening’s training consisted of a presentation by Berks County Search and Rescue Station 2 where they showcased their array of search and rescue capabilities and equipment. This included a video presentation and “tour” of their apparatus.

Station 2 consists of several team members who use many forms of technology to work with law enforcement, EMS, and fire services to track missing persons and help bring closure to families, monitor large scale events, and bring a variety of other resources to the table. Team members are certified to provide various types of ground searches as well as searches by air with their FAA-certified drone pilots. We hope to never need them but appreciate them visiting to share all the potentially very useful tools in their toolbox.

We were joined by several volunteers from Central Berks Fire Company as well as Northern Berks Regional Police Department who we work closely with on incidents and have the useful information for their own incidents as well.
