The auxiliary joined the Women’s Association for the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads (WAVAVRS) in 1971. Which is now called the Auxiliary to the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads (AVAVRS). Originally the membership consisted solely of the wives of Loudoun Rescue squadsman. They supported the squad from two stations, Leesburg and Hamilton. In 1977 auxiliary members sta

rted to run calls with the squad. Members running calls included Trula Peach Joyce Caviness, Miriam Meyer and Joan Mulligan. In 1980 Hamilton started its own squad so the Loudoun County Volunteer Rescue Squad service area changed to only include the Leesburg area. Membership in the auxiliary was changed to include anyone interested. This change necessitated changing the name of the auxiliary to Loudoun County Volunteer Rescue Auxiliary (LCVRSA). Early fund raising projects included bake sales, rummage sales, selling refreshments at ball games, auctions, concerts etc. As the years progressed the type of fund raising projects changed. Fund raisers evolved into bakeless bake sales, pancake breakfasts, selling calendars, chicken barbecues, and portrait projects. In 1983 we welcomed our first male member – Harry Householder. In 2008 we welcomed our first male Junior member – Daniel Smallwood, who also happens to be a 3rd generation member and grandson of charter member Trula Peach. Our members play very active roles as state and district officers over the years. Those that are currently holding State AVAVRS & Northeastern District Offices are:

Harry Householder – AVAVRS Vice President
Kitty Campbell – Northeastern District Chaplain
Debbie Smallwood – Northeastern District VP
Tasha Peach — Northeastern District Historian
