According to the American Heart Association, immediate CPR can double or triple someone's chance of survival after a heart attack. That's why certified CPR instructors in the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) offer quarterly training to volunteers to learn this life-saving skill. It's one of many ways MRC volunteers help support and protect our community.

If you're 18 or older and passionate about community health, consider volunteering for the MRC. Explore the different medical and nonmedical roles available: loudoun.gov/MRC

June 27 is National HIV Testing Day. In observance of the day, we will be providing free HIV and STI testing next week, June 22 -26.

According to the CDC, many sexually transmitted infections or STIs can be treated, and early detection can help reduce complications and prevent transmission.

As a reminder, testing at the County Health Department is confidential.

Strawberries can be delicious AND educational! County Health Department staff like to use strawberries in their tick safety trainings to help teach the fine motor skills needed to properly remove a tick after a bite. You can try this one at home — it's fun for kids, too!

: Ticks typically need to be attached to the body for more than 24 hours to transmit . Quickly removing a tick can significantly reduce your risk for infection. If you are bitten by a tick:

- Use fine-tipped tweezers to grab it close to the surface of your skin.
- Pull upward with steady, even pressure.
- Disinfect the bite and your hands.
- Monitor for flu-like symptoms or a rash for 30 days.
