Turns out, you don’t need a passport to travel the world. You just need a library card... and a luggage tag. 🌎

This August, our community filled our map with favorite destinations, unforgettable journeys, and places still on the bucket list. What started as an empty map quickly became a snapshot of where our community has been and where they hope to go next.

Thanks to everyone who helped us make the map a little more worldly! ✈️📍

And remember, wherever you’re headed next, the library has something to help you get there.

🐆 Florida Talks with Florida Humanities: “Cat Tale: The Wild, Weird Battle to Save the Florida Panther” 🐾

In a high-stakes effort to save Florida's official state animal from extinction, a dedicated team of scientists, a veterinarian, and a veteran hunter united to execute a risky rescue experiment. This presentation explores the remarkable story of survival surrounding the Florida panther and the courageous individuals who fought to protect it.

Leading this presentation is acclaimed author and journalist Craig Pittman. Born in Pensacola, Pittman graduated from Troy State University and spent 31 years reporting for the Tampa Bay Times. He currently writes a weekly environmental column for the Florida Phoenix, co-hosts the podcast Welcome to Florida, and has published six non-fiction books focused on the Sunshine State. He resides in St. Petersburg.

This is a hybrid program, so you can choose to join us in person at the library or tune in virtually from home.

🎧 Turn up the volume this September for Library Card Sign-up Month! 🎵

Stop by the library all month long to help curate our Library Mixtape. Simply pick up a cassette cutout, write down a favorite track, and stick it on our community display. 💿

While you are here, enter for a chance to take home a brand-new Kindle Fire HD 10 tablet. Fill out an entry slip with your name, library card number, a phone number, and the library service you love most, then drop it into our raffle box. The drawing is open all month with a winner being randomly selected on September 30. The raffle is open to all library cardholders, but an adult's contact information is required on all entry slips.

If you do not have a card yet, stop by the front desk today to get yours for free with valid proof of residency in Lake County. A library card is your backstage pass to books, ebooks, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs, magazines, video games, board games, online learning tools, streaming, and everything else our shelves have to offer.
