Leesburg Police Department

Leesburg Police Department Official account of the Leesburg Police Department (Virginia), proudly serving with professionalism, integrity, & community partnership.

Through proactive policing & strong community engagement, we work to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all. The Department's origins can be traced back to the mid-18th century when the Town of Leesburg was experiencing growth and needed a formal law enforcement presence. In 1858, the Leesburg Town Council established the first “official” police force, appointing William J. Hamilton as th

e town's first constable. This marked the beginning of organized law enforcement in Leesburg. Over the years, the department expanded in response to the town's growing population and changing needs. Today, the Leesburg Police Department continues to uphold its mission of protecting and serving the community. Our officers undergo rigorous training and adhere to professional standards to ensure the safety and well-being of Leesburg's residents, businesses, and visitors. The department collaborates with other local agencies and community organizations to address contemporary challenges and promote a safe and inclusive environment for all.
