It's time for a little tick talk!

If you get a tick bite, you should remove it with clean, fine-tipped tweezers to grab the tick as close to the skin as possible. Pull straight up with steady pressure – do not twist or jerk the tick. If part of the tick stays in the skin, try to remove it with tweezers. If you can’t remove it, leave it alone and let the skin heal. After removing the tick, clean the area and your hands with soap and water or rubbing alcohol.

Need a free pair of tweezers? The Loudoun County Health Department is offering a free tweezers at these PRCS facilities and parks: Ashburn Recreation & Community Center (Reopens Monday, June 15 following annual maintenance), Claude Moore Recreation & Community Center, Dulles South Recreation and Community Center, Ashburn Senior Center, Carver Senior Center, Senior Center at Cascades, Dulles South Senior Center, The Senior Center of Leesburg, Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve, Claude Moore Park, Franklin Regional Park and Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park.

Learn more below.

Who doesn't love free stuff? Stop by one of the locations listed below to pick up a pair of tweezers from the County Health Department while supplies last. Fine-tipped tweezers are the best tool for tick removal, so keep them handy whenever you plan to venture outside this summer.

Tomorrow (Saturday, June 6) is National Trails Day!

Begin your day by exploring Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve. With nearly 15 miles of trails that span 695 acres, there’s plenty of room to roam. Stop by the Visitor Center for a free souvenir and a trail map, then choose your adventure from several color‑coded routes.

Looking for something new? Head to Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park and check out the Songbird Trail, a scenic, one‑mile trail that runs through the north side of the park. This meadow trail is aflutter with life! Step out from the nature center for an easy walk and look out for milkweed, sparrows, native sedges and swallowtails. The new trail through the park will be a connection to a planned 33-mile multi-use trail through eastern Loudoun County.
