180 Project Youth

180 Project Youth A place to be who you are and become who you are created to be. There is someone I love, even though I don’t approve of what he does. That person is me. Lewis

There is someone I accept, though some of his thoughts and actions revolt me. There is someone I forgive, though he hurts the people I love the most. There are plenty of things I do that I don’t like, but if I can love myself without approving of all I do, I can also love others without approving of all they do.

God is not holding out on you. He is not waiting for you to reach an acceptable level of performance or conform to mankind's religious ideal. He is waiting for you to stretch out your empty hands and say “Here I am, Lord."

I didn't believe in God when He showed up in my life. I hadn't been to a church in years, and at 31 I considered myself to be my only savior. I was alone in a snowy field at a crisis point in my life and needed a rescue when I literally said, "God, if You're real, I need help." In that exact moment my life changed forever.

If you knew me before that moment and you know me now then you have been a witness and can not possibly deny the impact He has had on my life and those around me.

I received the gift of God's grace with nothing to offer in return.

I was a mess when He rescued me, and I am still a mess in a lot of ways today, but my life has been rich and full beyond anything I could have ever imagined.

There is no greater gift that I wish for any of you this Christmas season than to experience what I have experienced.

Please say yes today.

You don't need an altar call, there are no magic words, just reach for Him. He is real and is waiting to fill your empty hands with blessings you never knew existed that are more precious than anything we would have ever thought to ask for.

As this season of our lives comes to a close we leave you with this final word.

If you are someone who ever experienced the abundance of love and acceptance that made 180 so special and created that sense of belonging and family for all of these years, it is really important for us that you understand something clearly. April and I are normal, regular, messy, broken, selfish, foolish people. We do not, within ourselves, contain the capacity to love people the way that we have for the past 10 years. I personally have a tendency to be a private person. I enjoy solitude, and peacefulness. Given an option, on most occasions I would choose to chill with April and a couple of friends over going out or to a party. That is my comfort zone. What has happened over that past 10 years, beginning on day 1, October 6th, 2007, has been tangible and obvious evidence of God. The ENTIRE 10 years that we ran 180 Project Youth, it was never for a moment us, in our own strength or wisdom, that made it what it has been. We have been merely reflecting a much much Greater source.
I want to leave you with this, and please remember it for your entire life. The moon has no source of light of its own. Even the brightest full moon you ever see, the ones when you swear it’s almost daylight, are only a reflection of the Sun coming off the moon’s surface. If the moon can reflect that brightly, think about just how much light is hitting it directly, and how bright it must be up there in the fullness of the Sun’s rays. April and I have been moons. We stand in a light so freaking bright, that the reflection of it has impacted all of you for the past 10 years. That light is not fading, or moving away from us, but we have come to a point when we know it is time to reflect in another area. Every last one of you, no matter who you are, what you believe, what you do, or what you’ve done has the opportunity to join us in the fullness of God’s Light. You don’t need us to reflect in order to see, you can have the Source for yourself. My prayer for all of you is that every time you see the moon, for the rest of your life, you will remember that it is a reflection from a Great source and wonder for a moment how Great is that source.

If you ever want to know more, please don’t hesitate to DM myself or April. We would love to share.

Today 180 mourns the loss of one of "our" very first kids. Nate was fun to be with, he loved to laugh and make everyone laugh with him. He was soft inside with a big heart, and always made a point to say hi long after his 180 days were over. RIP Cap'n Briggs. Gone too soon.

With the beginning of a new year comes a renewed sense of purpose and an opportunity to re-examine the current course of direction. Here's to finding a few moments of clarity in self reflection today. I will have some thoughts to share with you all on Saturday.

Being surprised by the generosity of people may just be one of the most heartwarming things imaginable. Yesterday we received a card from a pretty fantastic family that was filled with love, encouragement, and support. What a blessing! The gift inside the card gave us a huge push, rocketing us past the halfway point of this campaign. (Happy Dance!) We are truly amazed as we get closer and closer to our goal. Every little bit helps.
