Citrus County Blessings is an organization working to see that no child goes hungry in Citrus County. They serve over 3,100 children throughout our county. Volunteers pack food for children over the weekends and long holidays, so they have something to eat when they're not in school.

🚨Urgent Weather Notification🚨

As of September 4, 2026, the automated lightning detection and warning system is out of service at Homosassa Area Recreation Park Athletic Fields & Outdoor Facilities.

While the automated sirens are not working, citizens must monitor local weather conditions to stay safe. There will be signage present at the park.

What do park users need to know to stay safe?

- Stay alert: Patrons, coaches, and players must independently monitor local weather conditions.
- Hear thunder or see lightning? Clear the area immediately. Leave athletic fields and outdoor open areas.
- Seek safe shelter: Move quickly to a fully enclosed building or a hard-topped vehicle. Dugouts, picnic pavilions, and trees are NOT safe shelters.
- Follow the 30-minute rule: Outdoor activities must remain suspended until 30 minutes after the last flash of lightning or sound of thunder.
- Manual suspension of play: League officials and park staff have the authority to suspend activities whenever severe weather approaches.

Our maintenance team has been notified and is actively working on repairs. We will notify you once the system has been fixed.

As part of the 31st Annual Save Our Waters Week, Citrus County Water Resources is inviting residents to tour the recently upgraded and expanded Southwest Regional Water Reclamation Facility.

It’s budget season in local government, and we’re working for transparency and engagement with the community. Upcoming budget meetings are a great way for residents to stay informed and share their priorities.

The Board of County Commissioners will be meeting on September 10 at 5 p.m. at the Citrus County Courthouse, Room 100, 110 N Apopka Avenue in Inverness for the Preliminary Budget Meeting. The Final Budget Hearing on September 21 at 5 p.m. at the Citrus County Courthouse.

Did you know Citrus County hosts an annual socks and shoes drive for children in need? The Nature Coast Volunteer Center runs the “Two Good Soles” drive leading up to Sept. 11 to commemorate the National Day of Service and Remembrance.

Donation boxes are available now through Sept. 10 at all Citrus County Libraries and community centers. For questions, email [email protected].

Donations help support CASA Citrus (Citrus Abuse Shelter), Citrus County School District Services, Citrus County Family Resource Center, Citrus United Basket, Daystar Citrus (Daystar Life Center) and The Pregnancy and Family Life Center of Citrus County.

Do you have a few hours a week to give of your time? ⏰

Citrus County Senior Services is seeking volunteers to deliver meals to homebound seniors during lunchtime hours, Monday through Friday.

​Volunteers must be willing to give at least two hours of their time, one day a week.

Each meal route consists of 10-20 stops, taking one to two hours to complete. Volunteers can be reimbursed for mileage!

The Citrus County Aviation Board Meeting on September 10, 2026 has been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict with Board members. The next meeting will be October 8, 2026 at 2 p.m. at the Lecanto Government Building.
