At tonight’s City Council meeting, LFD swore in two newly promoted Fire Officers and introduced our newly appointed Fire Marshal and Fire Inspector. Kristopher Perry, a 9-year veteran of the department, was promoted from Lieutenant to the newly created rank of Division Chief of Training and Safety. Chief Perry will oversee the department’s incumbent training programs, coordinate new recruit training, and serve as LFD’s Incident Safety Officer.

Sam Kornicks, a 7-year veteran of LFD, was promoted from Firefighter to the rank of Lieutenant. Lieutenant Kornicks has assumed command of Engine 211 A-Shift.

Chief Batts also had the honor of introducing Fire Marshal Mark Brown and Inspector Mike Francis. Marshal Brown and Inspector Francis handle all of LFD’s commercial building inspection and code enforcement duties. Both men have a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion for serving others. Please join us in congratulating each of these public safety professionals and welcoming them to their new roles!

Last night, the Northside Fire Academy graduated 12 recruits from Frankfort, Lebanon, and Westfield. The LFD would like to welcome all of the new probationary firefighters to the fire service. LFD PFF 's Josh Westfall and Garrett Morton will be joining the C Shift and Mike Barna will be on the B Shift.

Northside Fire Academy recruits are starting their simulated 24-Hour shift at the Boone County Fire Training Center. Recruits from Westfield Fire Department, Frankfort Fire Department, and Lebanon Fire Department have entered the final stage of their initial training and will graduate September 10th.

Today the LFD Admin Chiefs had the honor of presenting Firefighter Michael Ellis with his 1-Year challenge coin. Firefighter Ellis was hired September 2, 2025 and graduated from Northside Fire Academy. Michael is a father, husband, U.S. Navy veteran, and can now add the title of 1st Class Firefighter/EMT to that list! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
** MEDIA RELEASE**
At 1:14 am this morning fire crews were dispatched to 808 N. West St. in Lebanon on a house fire. First arriving LPD officers advised heavy smoke was coming from the home. An aggressive interior attack was initiated to bring the fire under control. Additional crews from Whitestown and Zionsville were called to assist on the scene and with city coverage. Multiple family pets were rescued. There were no civilian injuries reported. One Firefighter was injured (minor) and transported to Witham Hospital. LFD investigators were called to the scene to begin an origin and cause investigation. A kitchen appliance was targeted as the cause. The Boone County Salvation Army was called to the scene to provide disaster relief to the family.
