Frankfort Police K9 Handler Charged Following
Animal Cruelty Investigation

The Boone County Prosecutor's Office has filed criminal charges against Ethan Cunningham following an investigation conducted by the Boone County Sheriff's Office into an animal cruelty complaint involving a Frankfort Police Department K9 handler.

Cunningham has been charged with:
• Official Misconduct, a Level 6 Felony
• Animal Cruelty, a Class A Misdemeanor
Cunningham surrendered at the Boone County Jail without incident.

The investigation began after the Lebanon Police Department requested that the Boone County Sheriff's Office conduct an independent review of the incident due to a conflict of interest. Over the course of the investigation, detectives reviewed video evidence, conducted interviews, obtained records, and followed up on information received from multiple sources.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the Frankfort Police Department, the Boone County Prosecutor's Office, the Lebanon Police Department, and all individuals who cooperated during the investigation.

As this case is now before the court, the Boone County Sheriff's Office will not be releasing additional details regarding the investigation.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

🚨 LADIES ONLY FI****MS TRAINING 🚨

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is proud to offer our 16-hour Ladies Only Principles of the Defensive Handgun course on June 27-28, 2026, from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM each day.

Whether you’re new to fi****ms or looking to build on existing skills, this two-day course is designed specifically for women and focuses on:

🔹 Safe Gun Handling
🔹 Marksmanship Fundamentals
🔹 Defensive Mindset & Decision Making
🔹 Building Confidence and Competence

The course is instructed by Major Brian Stevenson and staff. Major Stevenson has served as the Boone County Sheriff’s Office Senior Range Master, a guest fi****ms instructor at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, and former Commander of the Boone County Special Response Team. He has been a certified fi****ms instructor for 28 years and has taught this curriculum for many years.

📋 Requirements:
• Suitable handgun (.25, .22, and .32 caliber pistols are not permitted)
• At least 3 magazines
• Belt holster
• Eye and hearing protection
• Approximately 350 rounds of ammunition

💲 Tuition: $200 (due at registration)

⭐ No charge for:
• Full-Time Boone County Employees
• Local Boone County Law Enforcement Officers

Need equipment? No problem! Equipment can be loaned to students who do not have access to it.

Today, we recognize Detective Noble for 10 years of dedicated service to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

Throughout his career, Detective Noble has proudly served the citizens of Boone County in multiple roles, including the Enforcement Division, where he built a reputation for professionalism, hard work, and commitment to the community. He currently serves as a Detective and is an active member of the Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT), continuing to demonstrate his dedication to excellence and public safety.

Thank you, Detective Noble, for your decade of service, sacrifice, and commitment to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens we serve. Congratulations on this milestone, and we look forward to many more years of service.
