The Lebanon Police Department is saddened by the passing of former Lebanon Chief of Police Sam Myers.

Sam was hired by the Lebanon Police Department in 1989 and attended the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He was also a founding member of the Boone County Special Response Team. During his career with the department, Sam served in multiple ranks before retiring in 2016 as Chief of Police.

Chief Myers dedicated many years of service to the City of Lebanon and left a lasting impact on the Lebanon Police Department and the community he served. His leadership, commitment, and influence will not be forgotten.

More than just a police officer, Sam will be missed as a friend, family member, and pillar of our community. Sam’s smile and laughter were contagious. Sam never knew a stranger and would do anything for anyone.

Please keep the Myers family and all who knew and served alongside Sam in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

National Police Week is a time to pause and honor the brave officers who work every day to keep our roads and communities safe.

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
