May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. By consistently following safe driving and riding practices and sharing them with others, motorists can help reduce the number of motorcyclist fatalities on America’s roads. The following are safe driving and riding practices that all road users – vehicle drivers and motorcyclists alike – should follow to help reduce the number of fatalities and injuries on our roadways:
• Observe all traffic laws and always obey the speed limit.
• Drive and ride alcohol- and drug-free.
• Avoid distractions while driving or riding.
• Drivers should yield to motorcyclists, especially while turning at intersections.
• Motorcyclists should wear high-visibility protective gear.
One other significant step that motorcycle riders can take toward promoting road safety for all motorists is completing a rider education and training course. Please visit www.pamsp.com to learn about Pennsylvania’s FREE motorcycle training courses.

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is now accepting applications for the 2026 Wild Resource Conservation Program (WRCP), which offers grants to support research and conservation projects that protect Pennsylvania’s native wildlife, plants and ecosystems. The program will invest more than $500,000 in projects across the Commonwealth that support conserving non-game animals, native plants and fungi, and invertebrates such as insects — species that are often left out of traditional conservation programs but are vital to the Commonwealth’s ecosystems. Application deadline is June 30. For additional information and a link to apply, visit www.pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/conservation/wildlife-biodiversity/wild-resources-conservation-program

I attended the Eagle Scout ceremony for Daniel McAteer, a junior at Cedar Crest High School. Daniel has been active in scouting for 11 years and has served his troop in key leadership roles, including senior patrol leader, scribe and chaplain’s aide. For his Eagle project, partnered with the Annville Youth League to build shelving for sports equipment and helped clear a hazardous attic gear could be safely used again.
The ceremony was filled with inspiring words and genuine pride. It was a pleasure to present Daniel with a House citation recognizing his service, leadership and commitment to the community.

Today, I hosted a public hearing of the House Policy Committee in Lebanon where we explored ways to make home ownership more affordable and attainable for Pennsylvania families. Our panel discussions addressed the limited supply of affordable homes and factors that put homeownership out of reach for many Pennsylvanians. Those factors include regulatory burdens, labor shortages, the increased cost of materials and other barriers to development.

Affordable housing is a complex issue affecting communities across our Commonwealth. Meaningful progress will require cooperation between the public and private sectors and policies that encourage growth and fewer barriers. As legislators, it is our responsibility to pursue practical solutions that increase housing opportunities while respecting taxpayers and the unique needs of our communities. This includes examining regulations, permitting processes, workforce and infrastructure needs, and ways to support responsible development that keeps housing within reach of working families, seniors and young people.

The input we received in our policy hearings on affordable housing will help us to develop thoughtful policy reforms aimed at lowering costs and expanding access to housing. Below, I'm pictured with committee members and panelists who provided testimony today.

I had great time at the Aging Festival at the Lebanon County Area Agency on Aging’s Maple Street Senior Community Center where seniors received valuable information about services available to older Pennsylvanians. I enjoyed catching up with Adrian Layser, executive director of the Area Agency on Aging.
