Warren County Educational Service Center achieved the designation of High Performing ESC from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce for the eleventh year in a row.

Warren County ESC saved client school districts nearly $7.9 million last fiscal year, ranking the second highest amount saved among the 51 Educational Service Centers. Key areas of savings were in nursing, occupational therapy, social communications, school psychology, and speech language pathology. The savings represented a 25.02% reduction if school districts purchased the services from another provider. This far exceeded the 5% benchmark of ODEW.

Warren County ESC served 72 school districts and agencies from across 9 counties in Southwest Ohio last school year. Student programs are provided in 6 WCESC owned facilities in Warren County and special education and related services on a contract basis to school districts across the region.

Warren County Educational Service Center provides high quality and low-cost programs and services to our client school districts. Many of our programs resulted from suggestions and ideas that came from our customers. We provide great flexibility for districts to solve unique challenges whether they need a part-time employee, a program for a student with exceptional learning needs, or simply a way to reduce costs.

Recognizing that each district is unique and diverse, our programs and services are designed to enhance the sharing of resources and working together cooperatively. Our ultimate goal is for all students to have positive learning opportunities that we strive to achieve through teamwork, effective leadership, and mutual support.

A Hall of Fame Honor! Congratulations, Christy Even!

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Christy Even, Assistant Superintendent at Warren County ESC, on her induction into the University of Cincinnati's James P. Kelly Athletics Hall of Fame!

Known as Christy Hoffman during her collegiate soccer career, Christy was one of the most accomplished goalkeepers in Bearcats history, helping lead UC to two NCAA Tournament appearances, the program's first Sweet Sixteen, and multiple Conference USA championships.

Her remarkable career included 59 goalkeeper victories, 32.5 career shutouts, and recognition as the 2001 Conference USA Defender of the Year.

Today, Christy brings that same dedication, determination, and commitment to excellence to her leadership at Warren County ESC, where she continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students, families, and educators.

From standout student-athlete to outstanding educational leader, Christy exemplifies excellence both on and off the field.

Please join us in congratulating Christy on this tremendous and well-deserved honor!

The MD Makings team came ready to do business. Students in the Warren County ESC Multiple Disability Program run their own student business, and recently they sat down with our partner, Friday Threads, to negotiate the deal behind our annual T-shirt sale.

Dressed in business attire, our Student Council President and Vice President delivered the full presentation using their AAC devices. They had prepared, they worked as a team, and it showed as they secured the deal.

The annual T-shirt sale is going strong because of them. Big congratulations to the MD Makings crew and thank you to Friday Threads for sitting across the table and taking these young professionals seriously.

Growing skills. Building confidence. Extending the impact.

Our October Champion for Children Spotlight honoree, Carling Daniels, brings the attribute of Elevates Practice to life by helping others build the knowledge, confidence, and problem-solving skills they need to support students.

As a BCBA in our Collaborative Coaching Department providing services to Little Miami Local Schools, she invests in others in ways that create a lasting impact. “I believe we all have something to learn from one another, and that sharing what we know helps strengthen the support we provide to students,” she shares.

“What excites me most is taking the science of behavior and turning it into practical, meaningful support that makes a lasting difference for students.” Carling especially enjoys working alongside people who are eager to learn, problem-solve, and grow. She finds it rewarding to create systems that help staff feel equipped to make decisions and implement interventions independently.

“My goal is always to build a toolbox that people can carry with them, so the impact extends beyond my direct involvement.” For Carling, elevating practice means helping others carry their learning forward: “when we equip staff to be successful, we create more opportunities for students to be successful, too.”

Thank you, Carling, for investing in others and strengthening the support students receive. This is what Elevates Practice looks like at WCESC!

See. Do. Get. – Building Habits for Life!

Our JLCEC students recently completed a foundational unit from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, exploring how perspectives and everyday actions shape their outcomes and relationships.

Through the See, Do, Get Cycle, students learned that how we SEE ourselves, others, and the world influences what we DO and the results we GET. A shift in perspective can lead to different choices and more positive outcomes—building personal responsibility and a mindset for growth.

Students also explored the Emotional Bank Account, discovering how kindness, honesty, listening, respect, and keeping commitments build trust, while broken promises and hurtful actions make withdrawals. Strong relationships grow through consistent, intentional actions.

Together, these lessons build self-awareness, empathy, accountability, and healthy relationships—skills that help students become valued teammates, effective communicators, and successful future employees.

On October 16, students in the Sinclair Preprofessional Academy spent the day with professionals who do career development for a living, and they came ready with questions.

Jenn Burleson, EdD, Sinclair Enrollment Advisor, walked students through the Value Card Activity, helping them see how their own values should shape the career decisions ahead of them. Walt Tracy of AtWork shared how a staffing agency actually works, and students asked him directly about roles and industries they might step into. Katie Kerry, Learning and Development Consultant at Sinclair, broke down the hard and soft skills companies look for.

It's one thing to tell students these things matter. It's another to put them in the room with people who live it and let them ask. Thank you to Jenn, Walt, and Katie for giving our students that.

This week is School Bus Safety Week, and across WCESC our drivers are doing what they do every single day: getting our students where they need to be, safely.

It takes real attention to care for the students we serve on the road. Different needs, different routes, early mornings, and a steady calm that keeps every ride predictable and safe. Our transportation teams carry all of that, mile after mile.

To every driver and aide on our buses: thank you. You are often the first face a student sees in the morning and the last one at the end of the day, and that matters more than most people realize.

Stay alert out there, and watch for our buses.

Why WCESC? Meet Emilia C.

In her first year with WCESC’s SCC program, Emilia is building on her background in Applied Behavior Analysis and her passion for working with individuals with disabilities. “I wanted to gain experience in a school setting where I could support students not only with behavior but also with communication, independence, and their overall success,” she explains.

SCC stood out for its focus on individualized support and helping students reach their potential. Since joining, she has found mentors in her classroom team, behavior team, and administration. “Being able to learn from one another and share different perspectives has helped me feel welcomed and become more confident in my role.”

What she has enjoyed most is building relationships with her students—getting to know them, learning what works best for each one, and finding ways to support their needs. “It is very rewarding to watch the students grow!”

She has also appreciated the flexibility of the learning environment and her team’s willingness to adjust strategies and supports. “I really appreciate how everyone brings different perspectives and works together to find what works best for each student.”

As she continues her studies in Applied Behavior Analysis, she looks forward to connecting what she learns with her daily work. Her goals reflect the same curiosity and commitment that brought her to WCESC: “I’m looking forward to continuing to build my skills, learn from my team, and become better at supporting each student’s needs.”
