BIO:
Laura Janas Gasbarre was raised with a keen sense of civic responsibility, pride and activism since childhood, Laura credits the examples set by her parents, Ed and Rosemary Janas with instilling in her the dedication and compassion to unselfishly serve others, particularly those in underserved and challenged positions. She has demonstrated her commitment to the community as a strong advocate

for its citizens, especially the youth and seniors. She is a graduate of Leavenworth High School and the University of Kansas. Laura holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. After graduating from KU, Laura began working for the American Red Cross in Kansas City, Kansas as the Safety Services Director. She later married into the military and that career took her all over the United States. Commissioner Gasbarre was selected by the City Commission to serve as Mayor from April 2003 to 2004 and again from April 2006 to 2007. Laura believes in the importance of giving back to the community through volunteerism. She has served on the Leavenworth Education Foundation Board of Directors (2004 – present). Alpha Gamma Delta- Epsilon Beta Chapter Advisory Board at the University of Kansas (2007-2008), Friends of Leavenworth High School member (2007- present), Kansas University Track and Field Volunteer (2004 – present), Leavenworth Public Schools Facilities Committee Spring (2008), Leavenworth Youth Advisory Commission Advisor founding member – present, the Kansas Governor’s National Bio-Agro Defense Facility Task Force (2007 – 2008). Laura is an enthusiastic supporter of the economic development, historic preservation, and fiscal responsibility to allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn, and a responsive government that is a government closest to the people. In her free time, Laura enjoys local sporting events, volunteering in the community and is never far from her family and their activities. Laura maintains a strong commitment to her husband of 24 years, Tony, daughter Aubrey and son, Anthony. They are active members of the Immaculate Conception – St.

For everyone's safety, City of Leavenworth trash crews will not pick up trash Dec. 22 and 23.

In preparation for severe cold weather and snow predicted by the National Weather Service Thursday and Friday, the trash schedule for Dec. 22-Dec. 31 will be:

• Thursday, Dec. 22 - No Trash
• Friday, Dec. 23 - No Trash
• Monday, Dec. 26, 2022 – Trash from Thursday Dec. 22 and Friday, Dec. 23
• Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022 – Monday trash
• Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022 – Tuesday trash
• Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022 – Wednesday trash
• Friday, Dec. 30, 2022 – Thursday trash
• Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022 – Friday trash

The Recycling Center will be closed Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Brush Site will be closed Saturday. These facilities will resume normal hours after Christmas.

We apologize for the inconvenience to our residents, however, safety of our staff is critical with wind chills predicted to fall below -20 degrees Fahrenheit.

Back to School Bash!

Our first big student event is happening this evening! Due to weather conditions, it will be moved inside. Please enter through the west/athletic entrance.
Parents! While your kids are having fun, don’t forget about Empowerment Parent Night in the auditorium to talk about AVID, PowerSchool, and honors & AP courses. This event is not mandatory for students or parents, but is highly encouraged!

Students must bring their student ID and wear their class shirt. If they didn’t receive their class shirt in advisory, we ask that they still try to wear their class color.

Join us for a family event at Wollman Aquatic Center. We'll show a family-friendly film July 23 at 9 p.m. This is a great way to keep cool on a hot summer night! For your enjoyment, our vending machines will be dispensing your favorite snacks and beverages. Time: Gates open at 9 p.m.
Movie starts at 9:30 p.m.
Fee: $6/person. Pre-registration online gives you a "Flash Pass" for express entry.
Movie: Disney's Encanto
Food: Kona Ice will be onsite for a favorite summer treat ranging from $4 to $6 each! Other snacks and beverages will be available for purchase through our vending machines in the concession area. Both accept cash and credit cards. No outside food or drinks.
