Prescribed fire is one of our most important and efficient tools for managing invasive species, restoring native prairie, maintaining open oak/hickory woodlands, and ensuring habitat diversity for wildlife!
Prescribed fires are carefully planned and executed. Certified staff with specific fire training plan, conduct, and evaluate prescribed fire in areas of forests, prairies, savanna, wetlands, and crop fields each spring and fall when meteorological conditions are optimal for safety and effectiveness.
Our properties may be performing prescribed burns this March/April. If visiting, you may see smoke. Portions of the parks will be closed during fire operations. The affected areas will reopen when the prescribed burn is complete. You may call the property directly if you have additional questions. Find contact information: stateparks.IN.gov.
