ney is the lawyer for the people of the State of Kansas in Leavenworth County, Kansas. The County Attorney’s Office serves a variety of roles which include: prosecuting violations of the criminal laws of the State of Kansas for both adults and juveniles; instituting proceedings to protect abused and neglected children; securing care and treatment in alcohol, drug, and mental commitment cases; appearing before the appellate courts of Kansas and the United States Supreme Court; and providing services to victims and witnesses to ensure their fair treatment in the criminal justice system. Successful prosecution of criminal cases relies on effective investigative and prosecutorial practices, as well as the cooperation of victims and witnesses to the criminal action. I encourage all Leavenworth County residents to support our efforts to combat criminal activity.

Another great article! Happy flag day!

In 1777, our nation created the flag that would become one of our most enduring symbols. I wrote this story about why we celebrate Flag Day.

Thank you to The Leavenworth Times and the other papers for publishing it and helping share local history and reflection with the community.

Lions Club of Leavenworth hosted their first Mission Mingle last night at Richard Allen Cultural Center & Museum, Leavenworth KS and we were fortunate enough to attend. Those in attendance were given a VIP tour of the museum, and Executive Director Mrs. Edna Wagner discussed the history and overall functions of this fantastic facility and organization.

MORE: The Richard Allen Cultural Center & Museum was opened in 1992 to honor African American history in
Leavenworth, Kansas. It opened in the former home of U.S. Army Captain William Bly, a Buffalo Soldier during World War I, and is decorated to look as it would have in the early 1900s. In 2003, an addition was built to the front of the original home to display more items and artifacts teaching about African American history in Kansas.
The Cultural Center and Museum
is named for Richard Allen, who founded the first African Methodist Episcopal Church in the United States.

Today, in my role as legislative chair of the Kansas County and District Attorneys Association (KCDAA), I had the opportunity to provide a 2026 legislative update during the KCDAA’s biannual conference via Zoom.

The update included discussion of several legislative developments affecting prosecutors across Kansas, including SB 374—a bill that was especially meaningful to our office.

I appreciate the opportunity to share information and engage with colleagues as we continue working to strengthen Kansas law and serve our communities.
