The City of Leavenworth’s page is a tool used to communicate to members of the public. It is part of a comprehensive media platform City staff use to share information about City of Leavenworth events and activities. Similar content is also posted to the City’s website, Instagram and Next Door pages. To reach a city staff member or elected official directly, we recommend using the staff directory on the City’s website. Our page is managed by Public Information Officer Melissa Bower and she can be reached at 913-680-2610 or [email protected]. The City welcomes comments on this platform. It is uncommon for the City of Leavenworth to delete comments on a particular post, however, we reserve the right to delete comments that contain:
- Sexual content or anything that would constitute sexual harassment.
- Harassing, abusive or threatening content or profanity.
- Spam, including endorsement of commercial products.
- Personal information including, but not limited to, e-mail addresses, telephone numbers, mailing addresses or identification numbers.
- Comments that encourage illegal activity or link to websites that encourage illegal activity.
- False information.
- Copyrighted material or media. It is possible for this social media platform to delete comments without the City’s control. The following filters and communication tools are used on the City of Leavenworth page. Here’s why:
- The profanity filter on this page is set to “strong.”
- It is not possible to “tag” the city government page on Facebook. We have turned off this feature because we were getting “tags” irrelevant to the City of Leavenworth, such as businesses in Leavenworth, Washington or the U.S. Penitentiary at Leavenworth.
- Messaging is turned “off” on both the City of Leavenworth and Leavenworth Police Department pages. City staff and elected officials can be contacted directly using the staff directory on the City’s website.
- Staff may not be able to respond to comments on live videos immediately. Commenting during a live meeting does not constitute an open public forum. There is time set aside during regular meetings of the City Commission for live public comment for those in attendance at meetings. Instructions are printed on each meeting’s agenda on how to participate.
- Facebook users should be aware there are three official pages: The City of Leavenworth, Kansas Government, Leavenworth Police Department and Riverfront Community Center. Facebook has automatically generated several pages of our parks and various locations around the community. These are not official city pages.
- Please note that, pursuant to the requirements of the Kansas open meetings act, elected commissioners and other appointed officials may not be able to post, comment, or respond to comments on Facebook or other social media forums.
