Thru-hikers - who has felt it? The magic of Leadville and Twin Lakes!

Whether you experienced it from the trail, stopped in for a resupply (and maybe a well-earned Melanzana purchase), or spent a glorious zero day soaking it all in - come celebrate with us!

Right now, southbound (SOBO) thru-hikers are making their way through our historic streets, reaching the spiritual halfway point of their incredible 3,100-mile journey.

Join us for Trail Daze at the Tabor Opera House on September 11th! Come celebrate the trail community, cheer on SOBO hikers, explore historic downtown Leadville, shop local, and soak in the vibrant energy that makes this such a special trail town.

October in Leadville just got a whole lot bigger. Leadville Main Street presents OctoberVille, a month-long celebration!

OctoberVille by day. SpookyVille by night.

All month long, downtown fills up with special events, local shopping, food and drink, family fun, and fall activities. And when the sun goes down, SpookyVille takes over with Halloween happenings, haunted fun, and all the wonderfully weird ways Leadville celebrates the season.

🍂 Well, that escalated quickly.

It’s only early September, and the aspens around Leadville and Twin Lakes are already starting to show a little gold.

After a particularly dry summer, fall colors may be arriving a bit earlier than usual this year. Mother Nature makes the schedule, not us, so if you’ve been dreaming about crisp mountain air, golden aspens and those ridiculously blue high country skies, you might want to make your plans a little sooner this year.

This month, we’re celebrating the double magic of our region: our mining history and the stunning wave of golden aspens sweeping across the high country.

The color journey is officially underway. Up on the highest ridges, the first leaves are shifting to bright yellow. Peak season is just around the corner!

Fall preview at 10,000 feet.

Autumn shows up early in Leadville and Twin Lakes, and it usually stays a while. Aspens start turning around mid-September, and by late September to early October the mountains are fully gold. Here's how to catch the color.

🍁 The Top of the Rockies Scenic Byway
Three routes cross the Continental Divide from Leadville. Fremont Pass (Hwy 91) for alpine meadows, Tennessee Pass (Hwy 24) for rolling hills and dense aspen stands, and Independence Pass (Hwy 82) for dramatic drop-offs and unbeatable color.

🚂 The Leadville Railroad
A slow ride through the Arkansas River Valley at a pace built for looking out the window.

🛶 Twin Lakes
Board a boat tour to the historic Interlaken Resort, or paddle out on a rented kayak or SUP for water-level views of the ""praying angel"" aspen grove.

🥾 The Interlaken Trail
4.5 miles round trip through glowing aspens to a lakeside historic resort.

🚴 The Mineral Belt Trail
11.7-mile paved loop with a photogenic aspen display at California Gulch.

Join us at the historic Tabor Opera House for two fun, family-friendly films:

Ratatouille — Sunday, August 30 at 3:30 p.m.
GOAT — Sunday, September 27 at 3:30 p.m.

Admission is just $6, and kids are FREE! 🍿

🏔️ Friedl
On Friday, September 5, Chris Anthony’s Friedl comes to the Tabor Opera House. This documentary tells the story of Friedl Pfeifer, the Austrian mountaineer who trained with the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale and later helped shape modern Colorado skiing.

☘️ Young Dubliners
On Saturday, September 19, Celtic rock band Young Dubliners takes the stage as part of Leadville’s Irish Weekend!
