Community Action Partnership of Utah Association for Utah's Community Action Agencies
Eradicating poverty by increasing economic mobility

Established as a beacon of hope and support, the Community Action Partnership of Utah (CAP Utah) has been dedicated to eradicating poverty in the state since its founding in 1994. As the statewide association for Utah's Community Action Agencies, our mission is to lead, strengthen, and support these agencies, ensuring they have the resources and backing to effectively serve low-income families and

individuals across Utah. Our Role: CAP Utah plays a pivotal role in the fight against poverty. While we don't often offer direct services to individuals, we empower the agencies that do. By providing them with training, resources, and advocacy, we ensure they can effectively assist those in need. Agencies We Support:

➡️ Community Action Services and Food Bank
➡️ Five County Association of Governments
➡️ Southeastern Utah Association of Local Governments
➡️ Bear River Association of Governments

In Davis and Morgan Counties, is doing something powerful: they're meeting families exactly where they are, whether that's facing an eviction, needing a few hours of respite childcare, or working toward long-term financial independence.

What makes Open Doors unique is their comprehensive approach. A family might start by getting emergency food support, connect with a case manager who helps them prevent eviction, enroll their child in Imagination Station for weekly childcare, and eventually join the Circles program to build lasting stability. It's all under one roof, designed to work together.

Their housing programs help families stay housed or transition from homelessness to stability with declining rental assistance so families aren't just getting a hand-out, they're building toward independence. And their family support programs, available to ALL families regardless of income, recognize that every parent needs support sometimes.

From VITA free tax prep to crisis nursery care to street outreach for those experiencing homelessness, Open Doors is creating pathways to stability across northern Utah.

At CAP Utah, we're proud to support Open Doors and the critical work they do for Davis and Morgan County families.

If you’re going through a tough time right now, we want you to know: your current situation doesn’t define your future.

Maybe you’re behind on rent. Maybe you’re choosing between groceries and utilities. Maybe you’re working full-time but it’s still not enough. Whatever you’re facing, it doesn’t mean you’ve failed.

Community Action Agencies don’t just help with today’s crisis—we help you build a path forward. A parent might start by getting emergency food assistance, then enroll their child in Head Start, access job training, or connect with financial coaching. Step by step, barrier by barrier, we work alongside you to create long-term stability.

You deserve support, not judgment. Resources, not roadblocks.

If you’re facing challenges with housing, food, childcare, employment, or utilities, visit caputah.org to find your local agency.

May is Older Americans Month, a time to recognize and support the older adults in our communities.

While many seniors live with stability and security, others face difficult financial pressures. Nearly 1 in 2 older adults in America is at risk for malnutrition, and for some participants in senior nutrition programs, a single meal provides 50% or more of their daily food intake.

Many older Utahns live on fixed incomes and face tough choices between paying for medication, groceries, utilities, or rent. Senior poverty isn't always visible, but it's real—and we can all play a role in supporting our older neighbors.

Here's how you can help:
🤝 Check in regularly on older neighbors or family members
🚗 Offer transportation to appointments, the grocery store, or the senior center
🍽️ Support senior nutrition programs like Meals on Wheels or your local senior center through donations or volunteering
💡 Help navigate benefits (like HEAT utility assistance, SNAP, or housing support)
🎁 Donate to programs serving older adults in your community

Community Action Agencies across Utah work alongside Area Agencies on Aging to provide senior nutrition programs, utility assistance, housing stabilization, and connections to resources that help older adults maintain their independence and dignity.

To learn more about aging services in your area or how you can get involved, visit caputah.org.

May is National Head Start Awareness Month!

Head Start has been breaking the cycle of poverty for 61 years by giving young children the strong educational foundation they need to thrive, all while supporting their parents' ability to pursue employment and career growth.

Head Start provides comprehensive early childhood education, health services, nutrition support, and parent involvement programs that set children up for success in school and beyond. When families have access to quality early education, everyone benefits.

Here in Utah, two of our Community Action Agencies provide Head Start services:
🌟 : serving families in Salt Lake County
🌟 : serving families in Weber, Morgan, and Box Elder Counties

Because of Community Action Agencies' ability to address family stability, career potential of parents, and early childhood education all under one roof, Head Start children have the absolute best chance of achieving their full potential.

Is your family eligible for Head Start? Visit caputah.org to learn more and connect with these programs.

Please help us welcome Jordan Pruhs to the CAP Utah team! 👋

Jordan joins us as our new Administrative Assistant, bringing a passion for social impact work and a background that perfectly blends business and social change.

A Cache Valley native, Jordan earned her degree in Entrepreneurial Management from BYU with minors in Sociology and Women's Studies. While working at BYU's Ballard Center for Social Impact, she discovered her calling: combining business skills with meaningful work around food insecurity, homelessness, DEI, and women's health education.

After a stint in public engagement (where she learned more about roadway construction than she ever expected!), Jordan realized she missed being closer to the social impact work she's passionate about and that's what brought her to CAP Utah.

When she's not at work, you'll find Jordan reading, sewing, baking, or planning her next trip to New York to catch a Broadway show.

We're thrilled to have Jordan on the team and back in the social impact space where she belongs. Welcome, Jordan!

To all the mothers out there, we see you. We honor you. And we're here to support you.

Happy Mother's Day to the moms working multiple jobs, going back to school, raising kids alone, navigating systems to get the help their families need, and doing it all with strength and grace.

You deserve support, not judgment. Resources, not barriers. Community, not isolation.
To the mothers in our community, thank you for everything you do. 💙

In the vast landscapes of Eastern Utah, Uintah Basin Association of Governments is meeting families where they are—literally and figuratively.

Serving Daggett, Duchesne, and Uintah Counties, the Uintah Basin Association of Governments provides comprehensive support that addresses the whole family: from keeping homes warm through weatherization to ensuring seniors have nutritious meals delivered, from helping families file taxes for free to providing emergency shelter when crisis hits.

Rural communities face unique challenges—distance, limited resources, harsh winters. UBAOG understands these realities and has built programs that work for the people they serve. Whether it's helping a senior stay independent in their own home, assisting a family with rental costs to avoid eviction, or making homes more energy-efficient to reduce utility bills, UBAOG is creating pathways to stability across the Uintah Basin.

At CAP Utah, we're proud to support UBAOG and the critical work they do in Eastern Utah communities.

These feel like small wins, just everyday reliefs we’re grateful for. But for too many Utah families, these aren’t givens. They’re battles fought every single day.

Nearly 300,000 Utahns live below the poverty line, where ‘simple things’ like paying rent, buying groceries, or affording childcare aren’t simple at all. They’re impossible choices that stack on top of each other.

Community Action Agencies across Utah work to turn those impossible choices into possibilities, helping families secure housing, access food, keep their utilities on, and find stable employment.
Because everyone deserves those ‘hallelujah’ moments. Everyone deserves relief from the constant stress of just trying to survive.

If you or someone you know needs support, visit caputah.org to find your local Community Action Agency.

Your reminder that poverty is a cycle, not a choice. Most individuals find themselves in poverty through no fault of their own and are desperately trying to break free.

That's why here at the Community Action Partnership of Utah and throughout our nine agency partners, we focus on programs and services that aren't quick fixes, but aim to help our neighbors get out and stay out of poverty. Learn how you can support us at caputah.org.
