🔥 COMANCHE COUNTY BURN BAN EXTENDED 🔥

The Comanche County Burn Ban has been extended through September 7th.

Conditions remain dry, and the risk of fire is still high. Please continue to follow the burn ban and avoid any prohibited outdoor burning.

⚠️ Reminder: Illegal burning during the burn ban can result in a fine of up to $500 in Comanche County.

One small spark can quickly become a large fire. Please help us protect our community, property, and firefighters.

🔥 FUN FACT! 🔥

See that big white cloud forming on top of the smoke column? That’s not just smoke — the grass fire is actually making its own cloud! ☁️🔥

It’s called a pyrocumulus, or “fire cloud.” When a fire produces enough heat, it sends hot air, smoke, and moisture high into the atmosphere. As that air rises and cools, the moisture condenses and forms the cloud you see here.

Under the right conditions, these clouds can grow even larger and eventually become strong enough to produce their own wind, rain, and even lightning. ⚡

This fire is outside of our response area, but it gave us a pretty impressive science lesson from a distance!

🔥 COMANCHE COUNTY BURN BAN IN EFFECT 🔥

Due to extreme fire danger conditions, the Comanche County Board of County Commissioners has issued a Burn Ban until further notice.

With the hot, dry conditions we are experiencing, it doesn’t take much—a single spark can quickly turn into a fast-moving grass fire.

🚫 Please avoid all prohibited outdoor burning and activities covered by the burn ban. There are limited exceptions outlined in the county resolution, but they come with specific safety requirements.

We’re asking everyone in our community to take this seriously. Help us prevent the next fire instead of having to fight it.

📞 If you see an uncontrolled fire or smoke, call 911.

Conditions across Comanche County are creating dangerous fire weather. Strong winds, low humidity, and dry fuels mean even the smallest spark can quickly turn into a fast-moving wildfire.

🔥 Please help prevent fires today:

• Avoid outdoor burning
• Properly dispose of ci******es
• Be cautious with equipment and anything that may create sparks

A wildfire can start from something as simple as a dragging chain, cigarette, welding, or equipment spark.

🚨 If you see smoke or fire, REPORT IT IMMEDIATELY.

Your quick call can help firefighters respond before a small fire becomes a large wildfire.
