The Comanche County Sheriff’s Office stands with our friends and partners at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge as we mourn the loss of Officer David Taylor.

Officer Taylor was doing what law enforcement officers do every day — putting the safety and lives of others before his own. His courage and dedication to protecting others will not be forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Taylor’s family, friends, fellow officers, and the entire Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge family. We are honored to stand beside you during this difficult time.

Today, Comanche County Sheriff Merritt and Deputies of the Comanche County Sheriff’s Office visited the Fort Sill Post Cemetery to honor the memory of **Deputy Charles Lee Dillon**, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Deputy Dillon’s End of Watch was **August 13, 1987**.

Deputy Sheriff Matt Dillon was killed in an automobile crash approximately 40 miles east of Alamogordo, New Mexico, while enroute to Las Cruces, New Mexico, to pick up several prisoners

Investigation Update
The Comanche County Sheriff's Office continues to actively investigate the shooting that occurred this past weekend. Yesterday, Detectives and Deputies served a search warrant that resulted in the recovery of property that had been stolen from the victim.
This investigation remains ongoing, and we are committed to following every lead to ensure those responsible are held accountable.

On 7/2/2026 a report of copper theft was taken in the SE 75th and New Hope area of Geronimo. The individual(s) whom broke into a hot electric meter and may have been burned. Please contact the Comanche County Sheriff's Office 580-250-2522 in reference to case #2026-0927.

On 7/1/2026 a theft of property was reported in the Wichita Mountain Estates area. Security camera footage shows what appears to be one individual arrive at a residence and proceed to remove multiple items; including a 36" Blackstone grill with Propane tank and accessories. If you have any information regarding this individual please contact the Comanche County Sheriff's Office 580-250-2522. Reference case #2026-0915.

Over the past week, the Comanche County Sheriff's Office was proud to host this advanced human trafficking training and coordinated enforcement operation alongside skull games, the Oklahoma Attorney General's Human Trafficking Response Unit, and our local, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement partners.

We sincerely thank everyone involved for their dedication and collaboration. Human trafficking has no place in our communities, and we remain committed to identifying victims, holding offenders accountable, and working with our partners to combat human trafficking. Together, we will continue protecting the vulnerable and ensuring those responsible are brought to justice.
