Today, Comanche County/Lawton Emergency Management hosted the Core Working Group at the Great Plains Technology Center Business Development Center as part of ongoing wildfire preparedness and planning efforts.

The meeting focused on assessing values at risk across Comanche County and strengthening evacuation planning considerations. Discussion included the wildland urban interface, community lifelines, critical infrastructure, and strategies to reduce wildfire risk through Firewise practices and home hardening.

These conversations help support stronger planning, better coordination, and a more resilient community before a wildfire occurs.

Thank you to our partners and stakeholders who participated and continue to support wildfire preparedness across Comanche County. We would also like to thank Sonny Puletasi with Memorial Health EMS for providing lunch for today’s meeting.

Your pets need a plan too

When severe weather strikes, your pets depend on you to keep them safe. Start building your pet’s emergency plan today. Start with the basics: a leash, carrier, food, water, meds, and a backup caregiver who knows your pet’s routine.
Take a few minutes to think through:
• Where your pets will go during severe weather
• How you’ll transport them quickly if you need to evacuate
• A bag of supplies your pets will need for several days.
Having a pet preparedness plan now can help reduce stress and confusion when emergencies happen. You should also keep printed copies in your go-bag with vaccination records, microchip info, feeding instructions, and a recent photo of you with your pet.
