INFORMATION REGARDING SOLAR FARMS--The Planning and Zoning Office has heard there is a lot of speculations and questions regarding any kind of commercial solar farm coming to Dearborn County. The process for this type of improvement is outlined in Article 19 of the Dearborn County Zoning Ordinance, which can be read by clicking the link below. As a short summary, any application first requires a pre-application meeting, then the applicant must apply for a Conditional Use request before the Board of Zoning Appeals, which includes a public hearing. The requirements of notice are all adjoiners to the subject property are notified by certified mailings, there is also an agenda for each meeting that is posted on the Planning and Zoning website, and there is always a notice of meetings placed in the local paper. All BZA meetings are scheduled for the second Tuesday of every month. Currently, we do not have any application for any type of solar farm in our office. We have not held any pre-application meeting for any type of solar farm for any property within Dearborn County. We also can't guarantee that there won't be an application submitted in the future, we do not have the kind of information. Article 19 was adopted in September of 2021, since such time we have never had an application submitted for a solar farm. There has never been a request for a solar farm before the Board of Zoning Appeals that has been placed on the agenda, and there has never been a commercial solar farm that has been approved or denied through the BZA or the Planning and Zoning Office. I encourage people to read Article 19 for the process that any solar company would need to follow. Also please feel free to call our office or send us an email with any questions.
