People Helping People, Inc Poverty Alleviation in Southeast Indiana Started in 1988 from a donation of $400 given to the assistant plant manager of Indiana Michigan Power at the time.

He in turn gave this to Lanny Wyatt, an electrical mechanic. Lanny was aware of an out of work electrician who was down on his luck, disabled, and had very little fuel oil in his tank for heating, and a shortage of funds at Dearborn County Clearinghouse. Despite his luck, the electrician was trying to ensure that his family enjoyed a good Christmas. Lanny decided to cover both needs by giving each $200.

Our Story

Started in 1988 from a donation of $400 given to the assistant plant manager of Indiana Michigan Power at the time. He in turn gave this to Lanny Wyatt, an electrician at Tanners Creek Power Plant. Lanny was aware of an out of work electrician who was down on his luck, disabled, and had very little fuel oil in his tank for heating. There was also a shortage of funds at Dearborn County Clearinghouse. Lanny decided to cover both needs by giving each $200. This helped ensure the electrician and his family enjoyed a good Christmas that year and made up for shortfalls in the Clearinghouse’s budget.

Today the organization delivers over $30,000 in canned goods from charitable donations and fundraisers held through out the year. These canned goods are purchased through Krogers and delivered to several of the areas local food pantries.
