Department of Education as one of the TRIO programs, was established at the University of Kansas in October 1992. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Programs nationwide, designed to help ensure that the next generation of American faculty members represents the diversity of our society at large by preparing students from groups traditionally underrepresented in graduate education for doctoral s

tudy. The Scholars represent a variety of disciplines (e.g. the humanities, the sciences, social sciences, mathematics, and education), but all share a common desire to pursue a doctoral degree. Participants are low-income, first generation (neither parent/guardian has received a bachelor's degree) undergraduate students -OR- undergraduate students from groups currently underrepresented in graduate education (African American, Native American, Hispanic).

Earlier this year, McNair Scholars took a trip to Washington D.C. to learn about U.S. history, participate in the civic process, and tour local universities.

“I think it's important for other students to be exposed to trips like this so that they can see their potential and open up the barriers in their mind. This trip was a dream come true, and I hope other McNair students get to experience what I experienced.”
