On Wednesday, August 26th, these incredible community partners showed up for our guests during Wellness Wednesday at Lawrence Community Shelter:

✨Mainstreet Credit Union
✨Kansas Department of Revenue
✨Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health
✨Visiting Nurses Association

These vital services and the compassionate individuals who provide them help bridge the gap for our guests, connecting them directly with important resources, support, and care.

We host Wellness Wednesday on the last Wednesday of each month, bringing community partners directly into the shelter so our guests have easier access to services that can make a meaningful difference in their lives.

As we continue to grow our Continuous Stay Program, it is imperative that our guests have direct, on-site access to these services. Having trusted community partners right here at the shelter helps remove barriers and creates opportunities for our guests to receive the support they need.

We are so appreciative of the time, compassion, and dedication each of these organizations brings to our community. Thank you for showing up, spending time with our guests, answering questions, providing resources, and helping ensure our guests have access to dignified, respectful, and compassionate care.

We’re excited to share a recent improvement at Lawrence Community Shelter: we’ve added three additional bathrooms for our guests!

While this may seem like a simple renovation, it represents something much bigger. We believe the spaces where our guests live, rest, and care for themselves should reflect the dignity, respect, and care they deserve.

Our mission, firmly rooted in human rights, is dedicated to developing compassionate and sustainable solutions towards permanent housing. The addition of these bathrooms is one small but meaningful way we put our mission into action. Every improvement to our shelter is an opportunity to create a safer, more welcoming environment where people feel valued, respected, and know that they matter.

We’re grateful to everyone who helps make improvements like this possible! You are part of creating a shelter that reflects the compassion at the heart of our mission. 💙

Their generosity included bath towels, washcloths, socks, coffee, and instant noodles. These everyday essentials make a meaningful difference in the lives of the individuals we serve, providing both comfort and dignity during challenging times.
