Clinton Lake, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers External Official Presence (Facebook) for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, Clinton Lake, Kansas, est. 1977.

Community Guidelines: https://www.usace.army.mil/SocialMedia Congress authorized Clinton Lake in 1962 and funds were first appropriated for construction in 1971. Nearly $55 million was needed to complete the project. Initial filling of Clinton Lake began in 1977. To improve fishing potential, the lake was filled slowly over a three-year period and multipurpose pool level was reached in 1980. Clint

on Lake spans eight miles up the Wakarusa Valley and covers 7,000 surface acres. If the lake ever approaches the top of its flood pool, an additional 5,800 acres will be covered and the lake will then extend thirteen miles along the valley floor. Clinton Lake's bluffs, wooded shoreline, and clear water is unequaled among Kansas lakes for the beauty of its setting. Shoreline development has been limited in an effort to preserve as much of the natural setting as possible.

With the change in seasons, many new changes are coming to operations at Clinton Lake. See below updates for the 2026 recreation season…

Woodridge Park
• Starting April 1st, Woodridge campground will no longer be free, and reservations will need to be placed on recreation.gov. Woodridge campsites will include 15 individual primitive campsites within the actual campground and backcountry camping is allowed anywhere within Woodridge Park with a maximum of 50 reservations. Campfires are still restricted only to designated steel fire rings provided by USACE at Clinton Lake.
• The individual campsites in the Woodridge Campground will be available April 1st-November 30th, but backcountry camping will be allowed all year. Fees for both individual sites and backcountry camping will be $10 per night.

Rockhaven Park
• All campsites within Rockhaven Park campground will be open to equestrian and non-equestrian campers. Campsites will no longer have equestrian-only designations. Campsites 1-4 and 10-24 include equestrian accommodations but non-equestrian campers are welcome to use those campsites.

Day Use
• Day use fees will be transitioning to Activity Passes at Clinton Lake. Day use activity passes will be $5.00 and available for purchase on Recreation.gov prior to your arrival or via QR code at boat ramp kiosks.

1. At the payment signage, you will need to open your smartphone camera and hold it over the QR code. Your screen will prompt a link. Click on the link, follow it to the website, and fill out the necessary information.
2. You can purchase your day use pass online ahead of time by searching Clinton Lake on Recreation.gov from your computer or smartphone, scroll down to “Activities and Experiences,” and select the area you wish to use.
3. From the Recreation.gov app on your phone, at the bottom of the screen, select the scan icon. Select scan QR code, and we suggest logging into your account if you have one or creating an account to streamline the process. From there, fill out the necessary information.

For those individuals who lack smartphone capabilities or anyone who may use any of the US Army Corps of Engineers boat ramps anywhere in the country more than 8 times in a year, stop by the Clinton Project Office at 872 N. 1402 Rd., Lawrence, KS 66049 and purchase an Annual Day Use Pass for $40.00.

Some things to consider when purchasing a day use activity pass…
• This pass is valid for 1 vehicle until 11:59 PM of the date listed on the pass, and only for the date and vehicle specified for this pass.
• Bloomington Beach is open May 1 through September 30, 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Passes are valid until 10:00p.m. of the date listed on the pass.
• Passes are non-transferable, non-refundable, not replaceable if lost or stolen, and are void if altered or reproduced.
• All visitors utilizing the boat ramp (unless camping) must possess a valid day use pass.
• If purchasing your pass on-site, no printed copy will be available. Instead, your license plate number will be used to confirm compliance. Rangers will confirm vehicle license plate numbers match that of a valid pass for that specific day.
• If purchasing a pass in advance, a printed copy of your pass is recommended for your vehicle.
• This pass does not guarantee parking availability. For your safety, please remember that parking outside of designated areas is discouraged and visitors who park illegally may be fined and towed.

Bloomington East Day Use activity pass includes Boat Ramps 5, 6, 7, and Bloomington Beach.
Bloomington West activity pass includes Boat Ramp 4. (No longer free)

VenTek pay machines will still be available at the entrance to Bloomington East and Bloomington Beach for a short time but will be phased out with Recreation.gov and QR codes becoming the sole payment method.

If you fall into cold water, every minute matters. Wearing a life jacket and using the HELP (Heat Escape Lessoning Posture) and Huddle positions protect critical body areas and can slow down loss of heat. Increasing your survival time in cold water. When safety isn’t nearby these positions can retain body heat giving you more time to be rescued.
