Amazing news, everybody!

Thank you, Attorney General Kris Kobach, for withdrawing Kansas from the Texas v. Kennedy lawsuit and for listening to the concerns of Kansans with disabilities and their families.

Twenty-two Kansas senior and disability organizations joined together to explain why this litigation poses a threat to disability rights and community inclusion. We appreciate the Attorney General's decision to hear those concerns and take action, and we encourage the remaining states involved in the litigation to follow Kansas' example.

We have a very special announcement 🎉

After more than 25 years of fighting for disability rights — 12 years at independent living centers across Kansas, and nearly 12 years here at SACK — our beloved Advocacy Advisor, Steph Sanford, is retiring.

Steph has been a disability rights advocate her entire life. She has shown up for self-advocates, for our mission, and for the people of Kansas in ways we can never fully repay.

We are celebrating her in the biggest way we know how… at the SACK 2026 Conference in Manhattan! Saturday night, June 20, we will honor Steph at a special retirement dinner and party.

Stay tuned for more. This one is going to be special.

The SACK 2026 Statewide Self-Advocacy Conference is just TWO WEEKS AWAY!

📅 June 19–21, 2026
📍 Manhattan, KS

We are excited to see all of you at the upcoming 2026 SACK conference June 19- 21 in Manhattan, KS!

There will be 300+ people at this event, so we want to suggest that people consider getting a Covid booster, if interested, prior to the conference. This is a completely personal decision- no one is required to get a Covid booster. Many people who attend our conference are already up to date on their covid boosters, which is great. If you are not sure of your current Covid vaccine status, you can check with your staff or family. We do not have any information about your vaccine status.

This is simply a reminder. If you were thinking about getting a booster anyway, we recommend doing this soon, so it is in full effect prior to the conference. We all want to do what we can to keep all of us healthy.
