If this be the case, then the movement’s most vicious antagonists were not the policeman wielding billy clubs in the streets of Birmingham, but the clergy inviting Dr. King to join their crusade of passive indifference. Lukewarm indifference is a greater threat than white-hot hatred. Just ask the fabled frog in the kettle who became quite intimate with lukewarm. What is this not the very issue Jesus addressed through His exiled apostle John as he delivered a message to the lukewarm Laodicean’s? Middle of the road in difference, Jesus said, makes Him sick.”

“Now we’re going to talk about an action plan. This is not the action plan. This is the vision toward and the foundation for the action plan. It’s driven by biblically based, gospel-centered, Jesus-exalting commitment for the church to draft a strategy to help realize shalom in our cities. It will require us to leave the baggage of politics and denominational affiliation behind and respond to the call of unity and commitment. This is a vision for change.”
This is an excerpt from Eric Mason’s WOKE CHURCH.
I read this today and it immediately struck me harder than if I would have read it a month ago, or maybe even a month from now.
I want to leave my affiliations at the door and commit to stand together with my “biblically based, gospel-centered, Jesus-exalting” brothers and sisters. We have a vision for change. We believe that things can and will become better. But none of it will happen without God being at the center.
I invite you, actually, I urge you... join us as we stand together, affiliations aside, to cry out to God to heal our land. We vow to pray for our community, pray for justice, and pray for our leaders.

In Woke Church, Eric Mason writes, “You have to be intrinsically changed by God in order for justice to be done. In other words, justice doesn’t come by legislation, because you can legislate things and nothing changes. We can go to the executive branch. We can go to the legislative branch. We can go to the judicial branch. We can put whatever kind of Supreme Court justices we want to put in place. But at the end of the day legislation doesn’t change hearts... only the gospel does.”
This is both overwhelming and encouraging. Basically there is not a whole lot we can do in order to end racism and the injustices that come with that sinful and hateful nature. Not to say that we should not look closer at broken systems; change, fix, or adjust the systems that are failing our brothers and sisters. We need to do what we can at every level to create a culture and community of equality for ALL people.
So... that’s heavy, that’s a big job. That will not happen overnight. That is overwhelming.
However
I’m encouraged.
Why? Because our God is so much bigger than legislation, the judicial branch, than the broken and failing systems. Not only is He bigger, but he cares deeper than we do. He sees it all. God is a just God.
We stand together and Pray on Mass because we believe that God can and will change things. We stand on the Gospel of Jesus Christ because we know that legislation can not change hearts but God absolutely can. Jesus commanded us to love. The gospel teaches us to love.

I see you and I love exactly who God made you.

I see you and I celebrate everything that God put in your heart. I’m cheering you on as you rise up to be who God created you to be. Don’t look to the right or the left, but instead have laser focus on God.

I see you and you make my whole heart happy. I see your hard work. I see your challenges and I see you overcoming them. I see your sacrifices.

You are a child of God. You can approach God with boldness and freedom. All of your needs, they are met by God. Nothing can separate you from the love of Christ Jesus. You are Gods workmanship. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

God sees you. God sacrificed His only son and bought you by the blood of Jesus. God has a plan for your life. God created you and He DOES NOT make mistakes.

I left yesterday feeling hopeful. Which is weird when you look at the reality of the against . If you believe in the power of prayer, which we do, then as Matthew 18:19-20 says, “When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I’ll be there.”
I’d guess that there were around 40 people on Massachusetts St praying for our community, our leaders, justice and peace.
Make no mistake. There is a war being fought all around us. The thing about this war is it is waged within hearts. The evidence of racism manifests itself in the physical, but the war itself is spiritual. I urge you to continue the fight within your own homes and your immediate community.
When was murdered people were outraged. It was horrific. It was heartbreaking. It was traumatic. Yet somehow as we all continue in our day to day the trauma and heartbreak seem to fade. I urge you again, don’t sleep on this war. That is precisely what the enemy is counting on. The injustices in our community need to be at the forefront of your mind when you sit down with God your Father. The racial injustices, child and s*x trafficking... do not let these things slip your mind because it doesn’t directly affect you each day.
God I pray for wisdom; wisdom for myself and wisdom for our leaders. I pray that you will open my eyes to see my brothers and sisters how you see them, love them how you love them, fight for them as if they are my own, because they are. God I pray that you’d open my ears to hear and open my mind to learn. I pray that you would use people inside my circle to help adjust my thinking where it is needed. I pray that you’d use people outside my circle to open up my perspective and help free my mind from wrong thoughts or learned prejudices. Father God I pray that you will lead me in this fight. That each step and each action will be on the war path that You’ve set before me. I trust you Father. I love you Jesus. Help us. Hear our prayers. Heal our land. Bring .

“Our children and grandchildren are the legacy we will leave to the world - our memorial to a time we will never see. The children of today will steer the culture of tomorrow. We have a limited number of years - the blink of an eye, really - to teach them right from wrong. They absorb our every look, comment, and action. When the subject is race, they model themselves after us. When the next racial incident happens on the news, they can predict our reaction, our attitude, before we even respond.”
“I believe it’s essential for us to pray for America. I know there are some who hear that and think it’s a soft solution to a hard racial problem. On the contrary - prayer is one of the most powerful and pragmatic actions we can take to overcome racism in America.”
“So, I urge everyone to pray.
Pray for the families of the victims and perpetrators.
Pray for our communities and cities, that tensions will cease.
Pray for the people we think are at fault and the ones we know are at fault.
Pray for direction - that God would specifically guide you into action.
Pray for wisdom for those who make decisions and laws.
Pray for the safety of law enforcement officers and the eradication of the lawlessness they are commissioned to fight.
Pray that we all will be keenly aware of our thoughts and reactions and will be bold enough to apologize when we should.
Pray for the courage to stand up against racism wherever it’s found - and especially when it is expressed by friends and family.
Pray for courage to call wrong ‘wrong’ and right ‘right’.
Pray for God‘s healing hand on America.”

It is not enough for us to just obey one of these, but all of them simultaneously. We believe that fighting injustice requires us to love one another and always be kind, but most importantly we believe that this fight is one that can only be conquered when we humbly submit to our God.
