Change of Command

LLAB 15 brought out the trophies and ties for the Change of Command Ceremony, where C/Col Kelly relinquished command of the 280th Cadet Wing to C/Col Brown. The Change of Command Ceremony allowed us to honor past leaders and welcome new leadership. The ceremony also allowed the Detachment to recognize cadets for their superior performance and all-around excellence this semester, including honors from national organizations.

Detachment 280 is grateful and proud of C/Col Kelly and her Wing Staff for their hard work this spring. C/Col Brown will carry the torch in the fall, transitioning from ā€œRise Above The Standardā€ to ā€œAnswer The Callā€.

GMC Under Fire - Capstone Pt. 1

LLAB 13 brought cadets back to Camp Bromelsick for the first part of the FLX Capstone. GMC cadets were put to the test on all the field exercises they have learned about over the course of the semester while facing OPFOR (Opposition Forces). While taking contact from OPFOR, cadets were also required to recover a downed Airman, relocate them to an evacuation point, and collect items from supply drops.

The second part of the FLX Capstone comes in Week 14ā€¦šŸ¦…

Senior Sunday šŸŽ“

To round out this semester’s Senior Sunday series, meet Detachment 280’s Operations Group Planning Deputy, C/1st Lt Baker, a senior from Overland Park, Kansas. He is majoring in Aerospace Engineering and will commission as a Pilot (11X)!

When asked what earning a pilot slot meant to him, he said ā€œit was a huge relief and very exciting to finally achieve a goal I’ve been working towards for a very long time.ā€

Detachment 280 is proud of C/1st Lt Baker’s leadership and service. We cannot wait to see him take flight!

Congratulations to all of the seniors we have featured on Senior Sunday this semester. Commissioning is less than a month away!

To The Mess!

LLAB 12 brought cadets away from the field environment to an afternoon of professional fun at Combat Dining-In. The Mess witnessed a series of roasts and skits from each AS class. Break the rules of the Mess or don’t have a rebuttal? To the grog!

Rooted in Air Force tradition, the evening highlighted esprit de corps, teamwork, and the importance of morale within the force.

FLX: Mission in Motion

Cadets were introduced to FLX during this week’s training, putting fundamentals into practice in a dynamic, scenario-based environment. Flights were tasked with defending a Forward Operating Base (FOB) while two fire teams maneuvered out to retrieve critical items using rifles and radios, all while facing simulated Opposing Force (OPFOR) attacks. Medic teams remained ready to respond, reinforcing the importance of coordination and adaptability. The exercise challenged cadets to communicate effectively, stay alert, and work together under pressure.

In addition, three 100s were awarded the ICSP scholarship and officially contracted! It’s an exciting milestone that reflects their hard work and commitment to the program!
