UPDATE:
After further investigation, the culprit behind the sewer issue has officially been identified: wet wipes. Yes… again.

Despite what the package may boldly claim, “flushable” wipes are apparently about as sewer-safe as a bowling ball in a blender. Our pump station on James St. spent the entire night fighting a monster clog before finally waving the white flag and breaking.

Translation: the sewer pump lost the battle against the wipes — and replacement parts, equipment rentals, and overtime to address these issues are not cheap.

Please remember: ONLY toilet paper belongs in the sewer system. Your toilets may forgive you, but our pump at James St. certainly will not. Trash the Wipes, Protect the Pipes!

Sometime last night the pump at James St. had the diesel siphoned out of it. It is vital for that pump to continue to run to prevent issues with the sewer in that area. A lock has been installed to prevent further instances such as this. If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact Village Hall at 269-674-8161.

There is still time to submit applications for the CDBG Home Rehabilitation Grant! Applications can be found online at the Village website, www.lawrencemi.org, or in person at Village Hall Office.

Hydrant flushing will be postponed until next week due to an emergency issue at James St. that our DPW staff is tending too. For the same reason, the meter reads will be estimated reads for April usage/May bills.
