Your support will ensure we can be of service for another 100 years and more. Starting May 17, 2021, the Lavonia-Carnegie Library is back to it's full operational hours!

The Athens Regional Libraries will be closed today, September 7, 2026, in observance of Labor Day. The Lavonia-Carnegie Library will continue its operation tomorrow, September 8, 2026, at 10:00 A.M.

👀WEEK-AT-A-GLANCE WEDNESDAY!👀

Here are the upcoming programs happening at the Lavonia-Carnegie Library for the week of September 7-11, 2026.

~BUILDERS' WORKSHOP~
September's building challenge is creating a bridge at least 12" long that can support weight using the materials provided; complete this challenge to receive a prize!
~CLOSED~
We will be closed on Monday, September 7, 2026, in observance of Labor Day. Check out our digital collection by using Libby, The Palace Project, and Kanopy with your PINES card!
~STORYTIME~
On the 9th, we will not have a story, but we will still have crafts and coloring sheets available for anyone who wants to stop by and create!
~CROCHET CLUB~
Every Wednesday at 6:00 P.M., we invite crocheters of all skill levels to join us to either continue a project they're working on or get inspiration for a new fiber art project! We have an instructor on-site, so if you're looking to learn the craft, come get crafty with us!
~ROCKING & READING CHALLENGE~
The Athens Rock Lobsters hockey team is hosting a reading challenge for school-age readers! Read 250, 500, 750, or up to 1,000 minutes to receive prizes for reading! Prizes include a ticket to a Rock Lobsters hockey game in Athens, GA!

We are very saddened to hear about the loss of Barbara Kendall. She was a lifelong library patron, and she brought her grandchildren to the library for our programs. Our deepest condolences go out to the family.

Tomorrow, September 1, 2026, until Wednesday, September 30, 2026, is Library Card Sign-Up Month!! All Georgia residents are eligible for a PINES statewide library card, with access to 300 libraries and a shared collection of 11 million items.

Come by the Lavonia-Carnegie Library during the month of September and enter to win a 🎶musical prize🎶by:
~Getting a new PINES library card
~Renewing your current PINES library card
~Refer a friend to either get a new card or renew their card!

Winners will be drawn on Friday, October 2, 2026!

🦞🏒 ROCKING & READING CHALLENGE! 🏒 🦞

The Athens Rock Lobsters' hockey team is hosting a reading challenge for school-aged readers to earn prizes for their reading! Come by the Lavonia-Carnegie Library to pick up a reading log and track your rocking reading adventures!

These are the milestones and prizes associated with them:
250 minutes read- Rock Lobsters bookmark (co-branded with Fox’s Pizza)
500 minutes read- coupon/voucher for one of our partner locations
750 minutes read- free ticket to readers' choice of 11/21 or 12/11 ARL home game
1,000 minutes read- free ticket to readers' choice of a game in February or March

Turn in your logs at the library so we can record your reading! This rocking reading challenge finishes on December 20, 2026.

Our Adult Book Club will be meeting on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 6:00 P.M. to discuss "Age of Innocence" by Edith Wharton. Pick up September's book, "Berry Pickers," afterwards!
