The Northest Georgia Animal Shelter is an open admission, non-profit Shelter, supported financially by private donations and funds from eight city and county jurisdictions. We often take in sick and injured animals, feral cats and wild dogs. In these cases, it is our obligation to humanely end the suffering of these animals. We strive to get all of our animals adopted, and often work with rescue groups and other local shelters to achieve this. Our maximum capacity is 160 animals. Currently our adoption rate is 30% and we are working hard every day to increase it. We also have a 50% RESCUE rate! Thanks to all the rescues that pull from us. We are very rescue friendly.

☕️ Say hello to Bojangles! ☕️

This handsome, happy little man was found wandering around Royston and is now at the shelter waiting for his family to come find him! 🥺💙

Bojangles is a 1.5-year-old Mini Schnauzer weighing 18 pounds. He’s got the happy face, the adorable beard, and apparently decided a little adventure was in order! 😂🐶

Meet sweet Maple! ❤️

Maple came to us as a stray through Animal Control. When she first arrived, she was shy, scared, and unsure of her new surroundings. But with a little patience, love, and lots of TLC, Maple started to come out of her shell—and we’re so glad she did! 🥰

Now we’re seeing her true personality: playful, sweet, and a total couch potato! 🛋️😂 Maple would love nothing more than to curl up beside her person, watch TV, and soak up all the love she can get.

She started out wondering if she was safe… now she’s just waiting for someone to show her what HOME feels like. 🏡❤️

🚨 SEPTEMBER IS OFF TO A FULL START! 🚨

We’re heading into September with a full shelter, a full schedule of owner-surrender appointments, and more calls coming in every day. Our shelter is filled with cats and kittens of all ages — including multiple litters with nursing moms — along many wonderful large dogs who are counting on us to provide everything they need.

And keeping a shelter this full takes A LOT of supplies. ❤️

If you’re able to help, we would be incredibly grateful! Some of our current needs include:

📄 Shredded paper
📦 Flat cardboard boxes — the kind used for canned goods work great for makeshift litter boxes!

🛒 We’ve also created our monthly wishlist for those who would like to help with just a few simple clicks. Every item purchased helps us stretch our resources further and care for more animals in need.

💙 Meet Foofur! 💙

This sweet, shy little guy found himself at the shelter after he wandered onto someone’s property. Thankfully, they wanted to make sure he was safe and brought him to us! 🥺🐾

Foofur was found on Westfall Rd. in Royston. He is a 12-pound Terrier, currently unaltered, and understandably a little shy in this new environment. We’re hoping his family is out there looking for their little guy! ❤️

💙 Meet Akamaru! 💙

This sweet boy was brought to the shelter by Hart County Animal Control after being found roaming on Omer Bond Rd. in Hartwell.

Akamaru is a handsome Retriever mix weighing 54 pounds. He is currently unaltered and is hoping his family sees this post and comes looking for him. 🥺🐾

He's safe with us, but we're sure he'd much rather be back home where he belongs, getting spoiled by his people and enjoying all the good things life has to offer! ❤️🏡
