Hurricane season is officially upon us! Make sure you have a plan for your home and your loved ones! Remember just because a storm doesn’t hit us directly doesn’t mean we can still feel the impacts. Larger powerful swell can cause beach erosion and strong rip currents and some tidal flooding!

As we head into another busy summer season and call volumes rise, we’re asking all families to take a moment for an important conversation about safety.

Please remind your loved ones:
• Swim only in lifeguard-protected areas, and always take a moment to observe the water for rip currents or other hazards before entering.
• If children are out with friends, encourage them to walk facing traffic, use well-lit crosswalks, obey signals, and never assume drivers can see them—especially at night.
• Beach bonfires are not permitted—help us keep everyone safe and our beaches protected.
• Respect for others’ property and belongings is essential in our community.

We all remember being young and wanting to enjoy every moment of summer. Our shared goal is not to limit that joy—but to ensure it’s safe, responsible, and free from preventable tragedy.

Let’s work together to look out for one another and preserve everything that makes our shore community such a special place.

Stay safe, and welcome Summer 2026!

This morning Stations 27 & 44 were dispatched the the area of the 3rd Avenue parking lot for reported garbage truck fire. The truck actually went to 2nd Avenue and 35 North where it dumped his load on fire in the road way to save the truck. Crews arrived quickly and extinguished the fire. Route 35 North was closed for a short period of time while crews operated. There were no injuries and the township garbage truck was saved. Special thanks to Tom’s River EMS and EM for providing some cold refreshments during the incident. Another great opportunity to display the strong team work among the island companies when it is needed!
