Here’s a look at our 21st Century and Summer Reading Camp students learning, growing, and having fun this summer at the Ford Elementary School site!

Students from Ford Elementary School (FES), E.B. Morse Elementary School (EBM), Laurens Elementary School (LES), and Waterloo Elementary School (WES) are participating in engaging summer learning opportunities designed to strengthen skills, build confidence, and foster a love of learning.

We are grateful for the dedicated staff members from across Laurens County School District 55 who are investing their time, talents, and energy into supporting our students throughout the summer months. Their commitment to excellence is helping create meaningful experiences that keep students engaged and growing.

A special thank-you goes to Melissa Gault and Krystal McGrew for their leadership as co-directors of the Summer School programs at the FES site. Their hard work, organization, and dedication help ensure a successful and enriching experience for students and staff alike.

Laurens District 55 Reading Buddies Welcome to 4K Event

Today, the Laurens District 55 Teaching and Learning Department hosted its annual Reading Buddies Welcome to 4K Event, where our youngest learners received their very own Reading Buddies and enjoyed the inspiring story The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds.

Inspired by the book's message, students embraced creativity and imagination while learning that a single mark can be the beginning of something amazing.

"Make Your Mark and See Where It Takes You!"

Through art, reading, and hands-on activities, our 4K students explored the power of self-expression and creativity. Each child created a unique dot masterpiece, showcasing their individuality and imagination, and left with a Reading Buddy to encourage a love of reading at home.

We are excited to welcome these young learners to Laurens District 55 and look forward to seeing all the wonderful ways they will make their mark this year!

Elementary students in grades 3–5 recently participated in the annual Math Challenge, sponsored by the District's Teaching and Learning Department. Held in May, the competition challenged students to demonstrate their mathematical skills through multiplication and word problem-solving activities.

We are proud of all students who participated and showcased their hard work, determination, and critical-thinking abilities. Winners were recognized for their outstanding performance and were presented with medals and trophies by Dr. Jody Penland and Dr. Kristi Tucker.

Congratulations to all of our Math Challenge winners on this outstanding achievement! Your dedication and commitment to excellence in mathematics are commendable. Keep up the great work as you continue to learn, grow, and succeed.

The Tiger Foyer at Laurens Middle School is getting a fresh new look and is officially under construction!

This exciting remodeling project is being led by Mr. Rambert, 7th Grade Science Teacher and Science Club Advisor, alongside the dedicated members of the Summer School Ecology Team. Through their creativity, teamwork, and commitment to excellence, they are transforming this space into a welcoming, engaging, and educational environment for students, staff, and visitors.

The project is designed to showcase Tiger pride while promoting environmental stewardship, conservation, and hands-on learning opportunities. As they reimagine this important space, these students are helping build a 5-Star Atmosphere that reflects the values, excellence, and school spirit that make Laurens Middle School special.

We are incredibly proud of their hard work, leadership, and dedication to making a lasting impact on our school community. Their efforts are a great example of what can be achieved when education, service, and teamwork come together.

Stay tuned for updates as the Tiger Foyer transformation continues to take shape!
