The Laurel Police Department is deeply saddened by the loss of Animal Control Officer Benjamin McSwain, who faithfully served our community with compassion and dedication.

Benjamin was known for his warm smile, his respectful and kind spirit, and his willingness to step in and do whatever was asked of him. He approached his work with a positive attitude and a genuine desire to help others. Outside of his work, Benjamin loved spending time supporting kids in the community and enjoyed attending Bible study—he even shared his faith by giving a few sermons at church.

Benjamin was passionate about law enforcement and had hoped to one day become a police officer. His dedication to serving others and his commitment to the Laurel Police Department were evident in the way he carried out his duties each day.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Benjamin’s family and friends during this difficult time. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

K9 Brasov and K9 Fenix received their emergency medical packs today from K9 Strong, Inc. The donation of these kits could be the difference one day in our dogs making it back home with us. From basic gauze and bandaids to a razor, chest seals and kwik stop blood sealer these kits have it all. Thank you so much for the generous donation to our pups. If you ever would like to donate to possibly save a K9 life or much more K9 strong would be a solid option to do so. Thank you again K9 strong, Inc.

Yesterday was another training day for our K9 division and it was a good one. Thank you to the Jones County District Attorney's Office for attending our training and bringing the court room side of training to the field to better assist our K9 teams. Also thank you to Springer Auto Salvage for allowing us to use your facility to get as close as possible to real life training. Our K9 teams are dedicated to being the best that we can be to serve our citizens, our Department, and our Oath.

Here we have K9 Fenix searching for narcotics. Fenix has drive for her toy that is nearly unmatched. Not only will she find the bad stuff, she stays with it no matter what the distraction or how hard her handler Officer Gieger attempts to pull her away. You go Fenix 🐾

🐾 🐾 Officer Parish and Officer Gieger were proud to be a part of community helpers week for the North Jones Elementary Pre-K class this week. These wonderful students got to learn about Police, K-9’s, and how we strive to better our community. A demonstration for narcotics detection and handler protection was shown to these students and hundreds of questions were asked. Thank you North Jones Elementary for allowing us to participate and giving these students the opportunity to learn about us. All of the Hugs at the end made our day just that much better. 🐾 🐾
