This week, I had the opportunity to tour the CoreCivic detention facility in Pahrump, Nevada — one of the private centers used to house individuals in federal custody. I’m grateful to CoreCivic for allowing us to visit and speak directly with those impacted. Their stories were deeply personal and heartbreaking — from Isaac, who missed the birth of his child while seeking a green card, to Luis, who waited 44 days just to make a phone call after being detained during his asylum process.

Their experiences are a stark reminder that our immigration system is in urgent need of comprehensive reform. Families deserve fairness, dignity, and a path forward — not uncertainty and indefinite separation.

Hoy tuve la oportunidad de recorrer el centro de detención de CoreCivic en Pahrump, Nevada, uno de los centros privados utilizados para albergar a personas bajo custodia federal.

Agradezco a CoreCivic por permitirnos visitar y hablar directamente con quienes se ven afectados por este sistema. Sus historias fueron profundamente personales y desgarradoras — desde Isaac, quien se perdió el nacimiento de su hijo mientras solicitaba su residencia permanente, hasta Luis, quien esperó 44 días para poder hacer una llamada telefónica después de ser detenido durante su proceso de asilo.

Sus experiencias son un claro recordatorio de que nuestro sistema migratorio necesita con urgencia una reforma integral. Las familias merecen justicia, dignidad y un camino claro hacia adelante — no incertidumbre ni separación indefinida.

This past weekend, I was incredibly humbled to receive the Young Elected Official of the Year award by the members of .

To say this campaign cycle and my first term have been easy would be an understatement, young candidates make sacrifices that go unnoticed behind the scenes and the journey isn’t always smooth. Fighting for my people makes this moment so much more rewarding.

As the youngest State Senator, I will always fight to ensure my generation and young folks have a voice at the decision-making table.
