What ever you overall opinion on unecmplyment benefits, it is not ok that so many independent contractors and freelance workers have been without this vital resource after the forced loss of their jobs and income.

There was a bit of confusion regarding permissible tools that can be used in salons under Phase 1 of re-opening Nevada. I hope this infographic reiterates what was communicated during the Nevada State Board of Cosmetology Meeting yesterday.

Some details are still being clarified but please look to the Board’s social media for periodically updated information.

Here is a list to help clear up any confusion about what is required and what is suggested for reopening salons.

The Nevada State Board of Cosmetology had an emergency meeting today to provide Governor Sisolak and the LEAP Team with requested guidelines to re-open the Cosmetology industry in Nevada. Below are my comments and stance:

“I would like licensees to know that we support them in their desire and efforts to return to work and re-open the Cosmetology industry throughout Nevada and are working towards those shared goals. Ultimately, the power to re-open our industry does not belong to the Nevada State Board of Cosmetology as that authority solely belongs to Governor Sisolak through executive order. Nevertheless, we would like to take this opportunity to encourage Governor Steve Sisolak to re-open our industry as soon as possible and ask that we be included in Phase 1.”

After a lot of careful thought, consideration and encouragement from some fellow board members I have decided to apply for re-appointment for my board member position on the Nevada Board of Cosmetology.

I realize that my public support of deregulating the Board may not sit well with Governor Sisolak who ultimately makes the decision on who is appointed but there is so much more I want to do to improve the cosmetology community as a whole.
