We're glad R-4392, Employee Freedom of Speech, was pulled from tomorrow's agenda. Here is the letter we planned to submit and read into the record.

Let's be clear: Your job should not cost you your voice. Public school employees do not surrender their right to speak out when they choose a career serving Nevada’s students.

NEA-SN and NSEA will continue to monitor this issue, lead the fight to protect employee speech, and be ready to act should it come up again.

This morning, NSEA brought a single message to the Interim Committee on Revenue: Seriously, Pass The Plan.

When it comes to revenue, Nevada cannot continue to be more generous to sports teams and server farms than to the Nevadans who educate our kids, drive their school buses, prepare their meals, and keep our schools running.

The Commission on School Funding has given us a plan to fully fund our schools. It's time to pass it. Seriously.

This afternoon, NSEA and WEA spoke out against the Doral/Academica application at the WCSD Trustee meeting.

NSEA & WEA have long opposed for-profit charter operators. While these schools may be “nonprofit,” the land, infrastructure, and management surrounding them often are not. As publicly funded schools, they should be held to the same standards of accountability, transparency, and equity as our neighborhood public schools.

This should be about kids. WCSD is moving toward a two-tiered system, and this expansion alone could create a $17 million deficit, larger than the one the district faced this year.
