As America prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, some in Congress want to pay for new priorities by reaching into the pockets of future veterans.
Hard stop. Do not bring TCAVA to a vote until it is clean.
Congress shouldn't be legislating disabilities. It creates a precedent to reduce veteran benefits any time Congress wants an easy way to reduce funding.
That's why Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) opposes the Take Care of America's Veterans Act (H.R. 9237 / S. 4744), and you should too! As currently written, the bill would:
-- Cut or eliminate future disability compensation for many veterans with tinnitus and sleep apnea
-- Increase costs associated with certain VA home loan benefits
-- Set a dangerous precedent by using veterans' earned disability benefits as a budget offset
This isn't just about one bill. It's about protecting the promise made to every service member who answered the call to serve. No veteran should ever be told their service is worth less than someone else's, and no generation of veterans should be asked to pay for new priorities by giving up the benefits they've earned.
Veterans answered the call to serve. Now we're asking you to answer the call to advocate. Take action today: https://iavaaction.secure.nonprofitsoapbox.com/opposepoisonpillpayfors, then call your Members of Congress and urge them to VOTE NO on H.R. 9237 / S. 4744.
